Dieu du Ciel order, anyone?

Post by skaghevn »

I've been hankering for some Péché Mortel for a while now, and since it looks like I won't be Montreal-way for a bit, thought I'd find out about a private order from the 'BO. Heard back today, and thought I'd pass along the info in case anyone was interested in making this a larger order, possibly leading to a lower over-all price:

Based on a 1 case minimum order, the retail price is approximately $78.00 per case, taxes included.

The case consists of 24 x 341mL bottle. <snip>...note there is a 25% prepaid deposit of $ 19.50 required per case.

Thanks for getting a quote skaghevn.

For a point of reference, what is the price for a sixer in Quebec? I am trying to remember - $14.99, $15.99 maybe (the other non Peche DDC beers were around $11-$12 I think). All those numbers + tax? If that is the case (no pun intended :) ), $78 for a 2-4 of Peche isn' t too bad, gas costs to Quebec from Toronto considering. Certainly not cheap, but I would be in...especially considering this beer is not likely to go bad sitting at the LCBO lab - let them age it for you :)

I'm curious as to what a case costs in Quebec normally. If there's enough demand, someone with a minivan could potentially drive to Ottawa (I'm willing to bet Marche Jovi in Hull would bring it in for us) and bring the beer back for less than the $78/case it'd cost through the LCBO. If someone has a minivan that can get 20mpg, it's 900km from Toronto to Ottawa and back. At $1.30/litre, that's ~$140 in gas. Assuming it cost as much as $50/case, you'd only need to get 5 cases to make it cheaper than ordering through the LCBO.

Just a thought.

Peche Mortel was $13.99/six-pack at Marche Jovi a couple of weeks ago. I think there was tax on top of that, but I'm not sure.

That works out to $56/case, or a $22 savings over the proposed LCBO price. It's probably only take 6 or so cases to make a drive to Gatineau worthwhile at that price.

I'd be in if we could break this up slightly with one or more of the other DDC beers (whether through LCBO or a border run). I'm thinking Corne du diable as beer #2 (i.e. I'd be happy with 12 PM and 12 CDD or some such combo).

I have some Fumisterie in the fridge right now!

I got sixers of both the Péché and the Corne for about $12 last month.

For those making the comparison to driving, you may want to consider how much your time is worth. Sure gas can be split amongst the beers, but how valuable is your time (or the time of whoever drives), i.e. 8 hours round trip? Just a thought. I'll pay a premium to not have to do that drive...

Prices in Quebec do not include taxes or deposit. I can't remember the exact tax rate, but it is somewhere around 15% and deposit it $0.10 on the small bottles.

So, at $13.99 per 6-pack at Jovi, the total is around $66.00 with taxes and deposit.

Do they not sell cases? Cases usually cost less than four 6-packs.

Would this just be a whole 24 of Péché Mortel?

Or could it 4 different Dieu du Ciel 6 packs?

This is very tempting... :o

The DdC! beers are on the shelf in 6-packs and the Bieropholie are usually 6-packs but sometimes singles. I've never actually asked about buying a case. I'll look next time I'm over but I don't know when that will be. It was the same sort of deal at La Trappe a Fromage.

Before we get too carried away with dreaming of all the DdC! goodies we could get if someone were to do a beer run, is there actually anyone out there volunteering to do the long haul out to Ottawa & back to pick up multiple cases of beer?
