Mmmmmmmmm, now trying the Katrina from Perry. Nice molasses and chocolate on the nose and a lovely drying bitterness in the finish.

La Fin Do Monde, 750ml Cork/Caged bottle. Simply incredible beer in this format and I second that recommendation. Perhaps the yeast-priming is just done much better in a high-pressure bottle??

I'm also 'eating light' because of my cold but some liquid calories are permissable, in my book...

Sam Smith's Nut Brown. Working my way through the gift pack - definitely the best deal of them all. (And the Nut Brown tastes far fresher than the last couple of times I've snagged it at the LCBO.)

New Glarus Staghorn Octoberfest.

It's one hell of a brew (certainly one of the best fests this side of the pond). I'd LOVE to see a local do something like this. I could drink it all fall.

Enjoyed some Great Lakes Winter Ale tonight, as well as some Headstrong Pale Ale. The government gave me $150.00 for no apparent reason, just for being a student, so I figured I'd treat myself to some beer (does that make me an alcoholic?). I'm hunkered down this weekend with a couple papers, one of which I've finished and the other I haven't started, both due Monday, so maybe getting hammered and then writing would be fun? Maybe not a good idea?

In any case, if anyone happens to know much about Charlamange/Einhard, and knows what I can write an 8-page paper on Einhard about, I'm all ears.

I don't understand - in my history degree I studied western movies, Japanese history and Vietnam, and you get stuck with Charlemagne? Its history, but its pretty lame-ass early medieval European history. Anyway, wasn't he the last French leader to win a battle?

Speaking as a Teaching Assistant for an Early Medieval Course at different university, one avenue you could pursue in such a brief paper is to examine the historical context of Einhard's The Life of Charles the Great. Why did he write it? What purpose did it serve in contemporary society. How is the document a reflection of his son Louis the Pious? Just some thoughts

Lagunitas Maximus IPA.

I've had a few bottles of this and I really tried to like it more than I actually did. It's a weird IIPA. Way too sweet and malty, really stong alcohol for its 7.5% and doesn't taste anywhere near the 72 IBU's it claims on the bottle. Probably one of my least favs in an otherwise stong line-up from Lagnunitas.
