The only alcohol related tax that goes to the Fed. is excise. (Under the B.N.A. of 1867, alcohol is the exclusive domain of the provinces.)The province levies several others. These are the so-called production taxes. Then there's the distribution fees. The LCBO charges a bottle levy of $0.36 per 6 pack and a "cost of sale" of $1.33 per 6 pack as well. I must commend the LCBO. They have taken a real interest in beer and are being much more pro-active in looking for ways to help us out The other source of distribution is The Beer Store (TBS). I was a Beer Store manager in my younger days and I know how they operate. Their cost of sale is lower, about $0.85 per 6 pack, but you must pay an up-front fee of $2500.00, plus $200.00 for every store you want to be in, to a maximum of around $26,000.00. Again, if you self deliver to all your stores, its one price, if you use their warehouse to distribute your beer its more money still. To put the icing on the cake, every case a micro sells through The Beer Store puts money directly into the hands of Molson, Interbrew and Sleeman.

Has anybody heard any more detail from Andrew Cousins on the KLB sale. The press release was here, and that contained the PC version of events. Just wondering if Mr. Cousins was going to provide any further info regarding just what happened.

Thanks

I"m sure Andrew has said all that he can at this point as the sale has yet to be finalised. As to whether he will ever elaborate, I don't think he will. I'm sure its all water under the bridge and he's probably eager to get on with his new plans.
