last night i was at the golden kiwi and had pints of Tilburgs Dutch Brown Ale and GR Curmudgeon. The Tilburgs was very nice (beer reviews post coming soon) and the Curmudgeon was just stupid good.

Wegman's, up by Coles is a great beer place. And their prices are way more manageable than Premier.

Yeah, Wegman's may not carry everything Premier does but there's still lotos of impressive imports and premium USA stuff. Just a corner area in a huge store... and yet it makes our province-wide selection appear truly pathetic. Some nice deals on the basics.... SNPA selling for 7.99 a six-pack, which is under half what I paid for some single beers at Premier.

Could keep it simple at Wegman's & buy a trunk-load of Stone IPA... that would be your cheap hop fix for the summer.

I resisted buying some "gems" at some smaller places like Consumer Beverage and Beverage World. Some good stuff but often standing right near a window, or of uncertain freshness. These stores do offer a few well-priced options though. Consumer did have the Duvel tulip glass in a four-pack gift box for 14 bucks.

Growler of Grand River Pils tonight, in honour of the warmer weather. Awesome as usual. My wife sipped on a bottle of the Grand River Imperial Stout - bottle is very similar to the cask - very imperial alcohol up front and almost baltic like in its sweetness and it terms of how thin it is (for the style). A great beer in a style no one has ever tried before here (it almost cannot be compared to John By or Wellington- very different beers) - tonight, this is tasting like an even better and kicked up Singha (Lion) stout.

And I'm toasting your Canadian-ity with Stone IPA. Now if you'll kindly excuse me, holy crap is Stone IPA ever great stuff!! Big open juicy hop profile, citrus and piney, and no lack of bittering hops. As an aside, what snack would go well with the increasingly bitter finish?

Being a PR of Canada doesn't make it any easier getting across the border!!

Anyway, just enjoying a relatively fresh can of Hockley Dark. It's been so long since I last drank this, which is a shame as it's just a great easy drinking brown ale, verging on a light mild.

Closely followed by a can of Fullers ESB. I was a bit disappointed that the head lasted about 2 seconds, but the beer was wonderfully malty and tasted fresh too (none of the metallic taste others have 'noticed' either). Gonna go and grab a Spitfire now.

Harpoon Leviathan IPA, my first Imperial IPA - it's kind of alcohol-heavy, similar to barley wine!! Oh well, next DIPA I try might be be Dogfish 90 Minute or Southern Tier Unearthy... What a weird style after the balanced perfection of Stone IPA!!

BTW they had the tasty Mike Duggan No. 9 IPA at Bar Volo today, if you fancy a wee nip of hoppy goodness. Gotta love the draught selections at Ralph's place!
