Brewing kits and where to get them

I am looking to pick up a good kit for home brewing. I don't mind if it's second hand or if I have to pick up parts from different places, but I would like it to be as cheap as possible. Does anyone here have any carboys or any other gear they are willing to give up?

Soda Centre in Scarborough sells brewing gear.

I usually go with Mashing Heads out of London, a bit further afield but they do ship.

Is Soda Centre a one-stop-shop in terms of equipment, ingredients, etc? It's unclear from their website exactly what they carry.

Also, for the extract brewers out there.. do you have an opinion on who tends to have the freshest LME?

Soda Centre has carboys, airlocks, cappers, sanitizer, LME, grains, hops, etc. Best to call if you want specific info and pricing (as long as you don't get the woman on the phone - she does not like chatting with customers on the phone).

Lately I just deal with Mashing Heads (and they sell kits). I've also gone with Homebrewers Retail for grains and yeast.

Found my own answer on that one.. at least in terms of pale, amber and dark LME. A local BOP, and likely any busy BOP for that matter. They have high turnover, especially on the pale (the only one I'm interested in really), so it should be fresh and relatively cheap.
