I find that Trappe has a wide selection from a handful of breweries, but I think it gets boring after a couple visits. I always seem to find something interesting at Jovi though.

I think I'd agree. Jovi seems to be a bit more on top of the new beers. However, Trappe has slightly better prices and plenty of other really neat food products to check out!

I'm always on the lookout for good coffee+beer places as the missus doesn't imbibe. I recently walked by Cafe Xpresso on George and York and noticed a Mill St. sandwich board out front. Turns out that Xpresso is actually a pretty nice place. So far, it's not packed with bloggers etc... and the food menu actually has tasty looking lunch items (panninis and fancy cupcakes) beyond your standard BridgeBucks banana walnut soy-laced muffin. Also, food porn in HD in the form of the Food Network. Anyway, they have Beau's, Mill St. organic and Coffee Porter on tap. But they also had DFH60M, Brooklyn Lager and Rogue DG in bottles -- pretty unusual for an Ottawa coffee shop! Granted, these items are available in the LCBO across the street, and I have no idea if they will actually stay on the menu, but you've got to give them credit for trying something new.

Went to Brasseurs du Temps last night and it was pretty awesome. I had a pint of the IPA, which used a different kind of hops than most IPAs I've had as it was less piney/citrusy, but it was still freaking delicious. I also had a pint of the Weizen and it was just great, exactly what I would hope for in the style; nice cloudy body, good yeasty/banana/clove flavour... perfect beer for the nice warm summer evening on the patio. I also tried the beer-based mussels and they were fine but nothing special, though the fries that came with them were terrific.

I hate you all of you so much :P (sarcasm disclaimer). You make me miss your city even more when I'm not there, as well as beer shopping in Gatineau. If I could go to Jovi or Trappe every day I would. Being between Toronto and Buffalo is not enough consolation for me!

Being from Ottawa, I should be pretty sure of this, but I just wanted to check. I'm doing an Ottawa edition for my beer review in the student newspaper (uWaterloo Iron Warrior) since I'm on co-op here right now. My intention is to mention and give a brief review of each of the breweries and brewpubs in Ottawa. To my knowledge we have two breweries (Heritage/Scotch Irish, Beau's) and two brewpubs (Clocktower, Brasseurs du Temps).

Is there anything in the Ottawa area that I'm missing here?

There is also the Draft Horse in Navan.

It is actually a neat little place to visit.

Cool, thanks for the link, hadn't heard of this place. Website seems to say they're moving at the moment, though I'll send them an email and see if I can drop by sometime in the next couple weeks.

Anyone know if the new Clocktower locations are any good? Do they have all the same taps as the old location?

The one in the byward market has all of the clocktower beers and a few guest taps, but it is a lot nicer of a location than the original.

I went out to Navan a few weeks ago to check this out. This place is long gone. Too bad, it looked like a nice spot.

Yeah, I was at a wedding a while back in Navan and it didn't look like anything was happening there. I think nobody's bothered to take down the website.

Got it, thanks for the heads up guys.

On the bright side, my visit to Beau's was successful. Had a nice chat with the girls working the front and picked up a few growlers. I'm liking the Oktoberfest.

The article I wrote was published today: http://iwarrior.uwaterloo.ca/?module=di ... ormat=html

Keep in mind that it's written for students in Waterloo, and that I repeatedly rip on 'Neil' because he and I normally write the articles together. He is currently on exchange in Japan and wrote an article on his own for the last issue: http://iwarrior.uwaterloo.ca/?module=di ... ion_id=116

Unfortunately in the print edition, the editor included a picture of the IP'Eh? from Russel in BC instead of a bottle of Beau's. From now on I am sending in my own pictures.
