I was at the Cooper St. LCBO today, and talked to a guy at customer service regarding the 40. He said that they have 9 cases in the warehouse, and have stopped taking names of people to hold bottles for, as apparently they have more than 9 cases reserved. He said the best bet to get some in the T.O. was to check the summerhill store early next week and (paraphrasing) get really lucky.

Haha, that actually is where I got them. One of the worst LCBO's I've ever been too.

No, I did not clean them out. Only bought four for myself.

Yeah I think I misread an earlier post where someone mentioned 40, but I think they were talking about the number of bottle of 12 available. The Ola Dubh40 product code started showing late Saturday (Yes I've become a compulsive LCBO checker)

But there are only 30 cases!! How can they reserve over 30% of the entire Ontario shipment for some special people, and then refuse ANY holds to other people? What about our equal-access, tax-funded crown corp... I've been refused holds for this at 3 stores.

Anyway, still good information - so thanks! I look forward to scoring a few extra OD40's in case people miss out, which I'm sure will happen. Don't let this silly event bring anybody's holdays down!! Be safe. Cheers.

Me too, and I called the Cooper St location really early and told they didn't do holds. I can't imagine all of those holds came before me. I understand that not everyone can get this beer since there are only 30 cases, but it sucks that having connections seems to be the way to get this. If it was purely first come first serve (or first people to put holds on), then it would be fair, even though many will not get the beer.

At a private store, well that's their choice to give preference to different customers, but it would also be my choice to not shop there. At a crown corp, this is stupid. Government employees should not have the power to give special privileges to their friends.

BWAHAHHAHAHAAAAHHH!!!! * ahem * Sorry.

Id these pointy-headed staff were really serious about 'no holds for you' they should cancel ALL the holds on the special lists, citing unfairness of availability to everyone (as they did to me). Seriously! It's stunningly hypocritical (not that I'm much invested either way, it's just positively nauseating to see a state-run system in bed with their 'select' clientéle, while acting all 'egalitarian' to my face at the same time.)

Or maybe we just weren't supposed to know...

I don't know. I don't live in Toronto, nor do I know which restaurants are trying to hoard the product.
But I do know it happens, and usually it is because they buy large amounts of stuff each week, sometimes $3000.00 per week or more. So it makes sense to appease them, in a managers eyes. But I like the conspiracy theory that gives regular LCBO employees a mysterious power that sets us apart from the humans.
