It's like we already live in hell and government employees are Lucifers minions. We bartowelers are the glutton who can't reach the fruit hanging above him, except instead of fruit we're tortured with unreachable bottles of barrel aged beer.

Well, I'm no minion of the LCBO, and I do work there, but I can understand the frustration. It doesn't make sense, to me anyway, to bring in such a limited amount of something. Like a waste of time.

That said, I don't think a lot of us will ever be happy, even when Arrogant Bastard appears on the shelves of the LCBO.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!

+1.

I've been neglecting to comment on this, but I'll just say that this whole pathetic situation has furthered my resolve to not live in this province for the rest of my life. Seriously, all melodrama aside. Fucking pathetic.

Len, the amount of cases released of the 40 is pretty similar to certain releases of wine through Classics & Vintages (I've done many releases of 10 cases of wine), so it's nothing new in the grand scheme of things. It's just new to us beer drinkers, and if we want to start seeing this type of release of a small batch then we have to suck it up and just deal the hell with it.

As for Mintjellie & JesseM, you may be taking the piss with your comments above, but jeez, you bloody drama queens, GET A LIFE!!!!

I'm just glad I live in Toronto. Even so there was an excellent chance my 6 attempts to find this beer might still have been met with disappointment.

As a sidebar, it seems the 12 is really flying off the shelves in the Hamilton area. A week or so ago 2 locations had it and it just sort of sat there, I saw more 12 than the Guinness 250th , go figuire. Now more locations have it and I wouldn't be surprised if it is all gone by Tuesday. I wonder if people were waiting for the 40, saw how the LCBO messed it up and said screw it and bought the 12 for personal and gifting purposes.

It's a drag I didn't get any, but isn't that half of the fun in being a beer "geek" ? You can't drink it all.
The fun is in the hunt. Primal... without the violence, and a little more commercialism snuck in there.

enjoy the beer you have in your hand. It all goes under your nose.

Jesse, what's worse, having 0 cases of n products brought in, or 0 cases of n-1 products brought in? Don't be frustrated that they brought a limited amount of something in; encourage it. If you're going to be frustrated, be frustrated that they don't do this more often.

This was a good experience for LCBO - they sold out in hours; they just need to figure out how to reduce the overhead on these orders (maybe take lessons from Vintages?). Imagine one day they might start bringing in small orders of lots of beers. Even if they only showed up in a couple of flagship stores, it would be a great start. Toronto's closer to a lot of people than Buffalo, and without the hassle of customs.

Dealing with customs has always been better than dealing with LCBO staff.

Not really. On the way down, you have aggressive, power-trippin' American border staff. On the way back, you have potentially bitter and spiteful Canadian staff. At worst, the LCBO staff are disinterested and apathetic. And also, the damn taxes are already worked into the prices up here...no surprises!

I would say mjohnson's point is, we need something a little closer to Buffalo that's not as far away as Buffalo. Period.

Do you suppose the supply was snapped up by individual beer geeks, or profiteers? If it's the latter, I suppose I can find a bar that will sell me a severely marked up version.

I seriously think the licensees were caught out on the availability at Summerhill and us Beer Geeks beat them to it.

Agreed. There might've been a couple of especially on-the-ball bar owners who caught wind of the screw up and got there to grab some while it was available. But otherwise, I believe it was mainly individuals who cleared them out at Summerhill a few bottles at a time.
