Just letting you guys know about an exciting new addition to Canadian homebrewing - the Canadian Brewer of the Year awards. You can read all about it here:
http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/
Most major competitions in western Canada are already on board, and discussions are underway with other competition organizers and clubs across Canada. The idea is to encourage and grow the Canadian homebrew competition scene. More competitions and bigger competitions will really strengthen the homebrew culture and make everyone a better brewer.

im pulling this one back to the top.
i want to organize a homebrew competition for bartowelers.
id like to do it one of 2 ways:
option #1
anyone who is interested brews a certain style (the participants can decide which style to brew)
option #2
best of show. anyone can submit anything they have.
ill arrange a tasting panel made up of bartowelers to judge the brews. i will provide prizes for the winners (# of winners based on # of entries)
this post is really just to see what interest there is in making this happen. all details can be worked out through further discussion.

I just posted info on the 2010 NHC Canadian Regional Qualier here:
http://alesclub.com/index.php/competiti ... -open-2010
The online entry system should be open by the end of February. The prize packages are even better this year, we've held the line once again on our very reasonable entry fees, and I expect the competition to be fierce. Good luck to all Canadians!!!

As much as I want to win/want my club to win, I thought it was awesome that you guys won BoS last year.grub wrote:we've already been setting aside bottles for this. can we repeat with best in show again this year?
By the way, last year I placed 3rd in IPA at this comp, but then went on to the NHC and won gold, which included a trip to Sierra Nevada Beer Camp!!! Words cannot explain how awesome that experience was, and all it cost me was 5 bottles of homebrew and about $12 in entry fees.
If you are planning to enter, you can greatly reduce your shipping costs by trying to organize with others in your area. Not to beat on a dead horse, but this is one of the great benefits of having a formal club; our members get free shipping to all external comps.

yeah, we thought it was pretty kickass. i think we've got some strong entries this year. i'll be surprised if tribute doesn't net us something.markaberrant wrote:As much as I want to win/want my club to win, I thought it was awesome that you guys won BoS last year.
i'd argue that your win is even more impressive than ours. although we got BoS in the smaller regional comp, gold in the "big show" is a pretty big accomplishment.markaberrant wrote:By the way, last year I placed 3rd in IPA at this comp, but then went on to the NHC and won gold, which included a trip to Sierra Nevada Beer Camp!!!
