What're you drinking right now?

I took the plunge and grabbed a Dead Elephant from the 'BO this afternoon (which was, surprisingly, dead and made for a far more pleasant shopping trip than anticipated).

When it was really cold, the smoke was fully absent, but now that it's warming up she's creeping in. Far less than the first batch I tried, which—had I not been drinking it a friend's place—was sink-worthy; they have something amiss in their process and I'd love to find out what it is.

I really want to like this beer!

I'm not 'drinking' drinking, but this is a bit of Stone Double Bastard I have corked in the fridge. Quite full of flavor. I never understand why they claim these beers are so challenging to drink, must be a running joke?

Revisiting King Pilsner in bottle form. Wow, I had forgotten how wonderful this beer is. Superb local example of the style and expertly balanced. I'll definitely be picking up more of this as the weather turns warmer.

Next up, a brand spankin' new bottle of GLB Orange Peel Ale. Love the new graphics. I know this beer has its detractors, but I've always been a fan. After the Canuck's inconsistency, though, I've got my fingers crossed that the OPA is diacetyl-free.

Some friends coming over for a BBQ in a bit, will crack a growler of Hopping Mad then...

Life is good.

Anyway, while I'm here, I'm having a Double Bastard tonight. Man do I wish Stone distributed in Ontario. Such great beer.

Durham Black Eye... yeah... show respect to this beer. It's awesome. The hops seem a little subdued since the first batch went out during Cask Days, but even now I'm still not complaining.

Great Lakes Donelly Black IPA. The nose on this one is pretty gnarly for a cask. It reminds me of really ripe rinds of grapefruit, oranges, other citrus before going into a marmalade, spiked with that american hop pine finish. Tastes damn good too.

Yup, the Black Eye is certainly sumpin' special. Wish I got to try the Great Lakes (and Church Key) Black IPA... hopefully they'll re-emerge at some point...
