StoneHammer Dark now available at the LCBO!
A favorite among the staff at F&M Brewery, The StoneHammer Dark Ale will be hitting the shelves at an LCBO near you!
One should be able to find it next to our award winning Pilsner...
Cheers!

Nice, Bill. The reviews for the Dark Ale in the next issue of TAPS (coming out very soon) were all positive.

I suppose the first post was a little premature, we at the brewery are awaiting our 6-pack boxes to arrive. Once the boxes arrive, to the bottling line we go! After that, Stoney Dark should hit the shelves in a week or so...
And for those of you whom have not yet picked up the latest edition of TAPS magazine, Troy Burtch and Craig Pinhey both gave positive reviews for the dark.
I will keep everyone posted as to when exactly the Dark will be on the shelves and which LCBOs you'll be able to find it at!

Thanks for the update Bill. I like all of F&M's beers (haven't tried the Light though), so I'm champing at the bit to get some of this Dark!Bill MacTavish wrote: I will keep everyone posted as to when exactly the Dark will be on the shelves and which LCBOs you'll be able to find it at!

While i'm sure this is a good beer and am not trying to slag Stonehammer in any way (i'm sure i'll give it a try)...Do we really need another example of an Ontario Dark Ale (or Lager) in the LCBO??
I mean there are already mutliple examples of "dark Ale" available...just thinking off the top of the head I can think of Muskoka Dark, Hockley Dark, King Dark (Lager), Wellington County Ale, Newstadt 10w30, etc.
Just wishing Ontario breweries would step out of the box and do something original in this market place.
How great would it be if 10 Bitter Years was available in the LCBO?

10 bitter years at the LCBO would be awesome. it be a great step to see an Ontario IIPA on LCBO shelves.Mr.X wrote:While i'm sure this is a good beer and am not trying to slag Stonehammer in any way (i'm sure i'll give it a try)...Do we really need another example of an Ontario Dark Ale (or Lager) in the LCBO??

as for ontario brewers stepping out of the box, well its something id love to see.
as you pointed out adding another brown ale to the shelves isnt all that exciting. what would be exciting would be a new ontario version of any of the following:
IPA (west coast)
IIPA
porter
stout
any belgian style
barley wine
scotch ale
you stuff we dont have instead of stuff we do have
if an ontario brewery could put a legit west coast IPA on LCBO shelves for ~$13 a sixer i wouldnt have much use for ST IPA or 60min anymore

The LCBO carries Chimay Red, Chimay White, Maudite, Blanche de Chambly, La Fin du Monde, Hoegaarden, Rickards White, Mill St Wit, Leffe Blonde, and Leffe Brune. Thats general list. You also have that traditional Belgian ales box every christmas, the one with Piraat and Gulden Drakk. As seasonals, we've seen Margriet, Gouden Carolus Classic, Gouden Carolus Ambrio, Koeninshevoen (sp.) Quad, Brussels White, Westmalle Tripel, Westmalle Dubbel, and Orval. Thats all I can remember, there may be more.
There are some Belgian styles that the LCBO sorely misses, like traditional lambics, saisons, flanders reds, and oud bruin. Things I would love to try but don't get the chance to.
The styles that are represented are represented nowhere near as well as what you'd find in a well stocked American specialty shop. I would say that they are as well represented as most other non-domestic macro options though. They might even be better represented than porters, stouts, and American-style pale ales and IPA.

okay belgian ales might not have been the best example of what were missing but are at best under-represented. most of those other styles are completly unavailible.mintjellie wrote:The LCBO carries Chimay Red, Chimay White, Maudite, Blanche de Chambly, La Fin du Monde, Hoegaarden, Rickards White, Mill St Wit, Leffe Blonde, and Leffe Brune.
