TBS and freshness?
TBS and freshness?
Took some empties back to a self serve BS and wandered through the store to see what was new and exciting. One thing that jumped out was the wide range of production and best before dates. I don't know if this was because customers were messing up the shelves or what. For example I saw Corona cases with LCBO stickers on them of early Dec 2009 and others with last week. Samuel Adams of best before, last month. Its like when you go to the food store and there is bread with 5 different dates. I confess I like to dig and yet I see other people do not and grab anything. I guess I have to dig at TBS now!
Anyone else a digger or is it just me? And are all BS like this?

There's a "Big Wall" BS quite close to me, and a walk-in one that's an extra 10 minute bike ride up the road. I always go the extra distance to the walk-in one because I've gotten some shockingly past-best before product at the big wall one. I find the walk-in generally has fresher product, as well (or at the very least the ability to see the freshness of a product), and due to the limited LCBO availability of stuff like King Pils or Black Oak Pale, I often go there to pick up a 6 of each. So, yes, to make a long story short, I'm a digger.Ukie wrote:Took some empties back to a self serve BS and wandered through the store to see what was new and exciting. I did just that at the Summerhill BS the other day. The Fin Du Monde I bought appear to be from early 2009. Pretty sure that stock moves VERY slowly and the much more popular skids of Bud Lite Lime move quickly enough to ensure "freshness".xocoatl wrote:I like to check for unibroue products in the walk-ins. Nothing like finding one with a year or so of aging already done for you.
I don't always piss in a bottle but when I do...I prefer to call it Dos Equis.

But did she still sell it to you? Did you get a discount?Duffey wrote:Last month I asked for Cameron's and the girl went to get it. After returning she told me that it was past its due date. This was the only time I've met a beer store employee who cares about fresh beer and I thanked her for it.
Don't keep us in suspense...

A TBS story where you get that sort of service is excellent. Did you talk to her manager to compliment?
