What an odd article...

Josh certainly didn't write it:
Canadian palates — at least when it comes to alcohol — are becoming somewhat more sophisticated.
The title is a tad extreme:
But while beer by far remained the most popular alcoholic beverage in terms of both volume and dollar value, StatsCan says its market share declined.

And also the comparison years, 1993, 1976, 1999 are all over the place. I guess someone had to fill an article quota in order to get paid ;-)

Since when is 'sophisticated' taste the same as more people drinking Yellow Tail Shiraz and cheap grain alcohol cocktails?

Idots. I think taste is becoming DUMBER because the industry now realize the fast-food model of 'premium price for premium shit' can apply to any consumable. Keep the consumer as stupid as possible, and tell them how great your mass-marketed crap flavored vodka drink is.

Taste has become dumber. We "advanced" civilizations have given up on 3 of the 5 basic flavors and left everything with sweet and salt. Just look at media, fast food, restaurant ads. It is kinda disgusting.

every year or so I see an article like this, for the last 30 years, but it does not reflect the reality on the (craft beer) ground

I know craft beer sales are rising vs. macro sales in the US, but is that true of Canada as well?

I have a feeling that the author didn't even consider the possibility of comparing craft versus mainstream beer. "Sophisticated," my ass!

to suggest wine drinkers' palates are more soffisticated to beer drinkers is ridiculous and stinks of snobbery. both beer and wine have good and bad examples of their craft.
