Posted on their website: "Six pallets left this week for Ontario. We sent two beers: 606 Pale ale and Czech Mate. They should be released to LCBO stores by Sept."

Yeah, I was surprised, as I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else.Bobsy wrote:This is new to me! The Czech Mate is an excellent beer, and 606 is a very passable English IPA. Nice to see a little bit of SK hit the shelves!
Czech Mate is an awesome pilsner.
606 has gone through MANY iterations since it debuted 4 years ago. For the last year or more, it has switched back to a NW style pale ale/IPA (big amarillo character, quite bitter). I usually drink 606 on tap at a downtown pub that also serves Tankhouse - the 606 is way more paler, hoppier and bitter.

Black Cat is a better schwarzbier than the classic Kostritzer.cratez wrote:Wow. The only beer I've tried from them is Black Cat Lager, and it's excellent, so I'm pumped to try these other ones. Come to think of it, the Black Cat is one of the best lagers I've ever had. If the 606 and Czech Mate are even slightly comparable, I'll be a happy boy!
If you like good pilsners, you'll like the Czech Mate.
I still think the 606 needs minor tweaking, but it has gotten more stable/solid, and is well worth checking out.
Wasn't nuts about the Black Cat I've tried. There's a smokey note that threw me off. But the Czech Mate is outstanding. Every bit as good as the King Pilsner, and bang on style. The IPA and the IIPA are both very tasty too. I was quite surprised to read they're coming here -- didn't think they had the production volume to warrant exporting in quantities the LCBO would want.markaberrant wrote:Black Cat is a better schwarzbier than the classic Kostritzer.cratez wrote:Wow. Though without prices. Hopefully they'll be hitting shelves soon.

I don't really give a rats ass about another English Pale Ale, no matter what brewery it comes from, but the Czech Mate should be worth trying.
A good point. Though I tend to dislike beers with numbers in their names. I also generally judge a book by its cover.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!

But it's also hopped with Willamette and has a Marris Otter malt base. It's listed as an English IPA on BA and most of the reviewers seem to agree with that classification. Brooklyn East India Pale Ale uses Centennial and Amarillo hops but the BJCP considers it to be a commercial example of an English IPA. You didn't object when another poster called it an English IPA above, so what gives?markaberrant wrote: 606 is hopped with Amarillo, hardly an English Pale Ale.

Guess I didn't see the other mention of it as an English IPA. Look, 606 has gone through countless recipe changes, but the current rendition (unless they changed it again) is not english in any way shape or form.cratez wrote:But it's also hopped with Willamette and has a Marris Otter malt base. Now their Loki DIPA is a different beast. Not even close to American in interpretation.
