LHBS in Mississauga

Post by Peter Collins »

As usual I'm on a quest for homebrewing supplies in Southern Ontario. I'm brewing with a friend now and he works for the city of Mississauga. I'm currently getting my supplies from Brewhaven in London which works out fine when I'm there every week but he was also asking about LHBS in Mississauga since he's there every day, obviously.

What is there? We are currently looking for LME with a variety of specialty grains and hops. We will be switching to all grain in September so if there is something in town that can serve our needs in that direction that would be a bonus.

Your help, as always, is much appreciated.

:D

My last LME purchase was from Nickel Brook in Burlington. Ein Stein in Oakville used to sell it as well. I haven't been to either place recently.

I do recall going to one shop on Lakeshore, west of Mississauaga Rd. They specialized in wine but did sell LME.

Ein Stien in Oakville definitely still sells as well

Yeah, I saw the brewcellar site. It looked nice but I didn't get a great deal of information about it particularly about the sale of ingredients for homebrewers. If it's a good place to go for that type of thing let me know and I'll pass the address on to my friend. I may give them a call tomorrow and see what they have.

On a side note... I'm in Cambridge and contacted two places last night and this morning about their ingredients and supplies. One by phone message and the other by email. No replies.

What is it with LHBS in Ontario? Mashing Heads giving crap business, others not returning emails or phone calls. Some of them just not stocking basic gear and ingredients... Meh, what's it all about?

I've bought some whole leaf hops from Bob Latimer in Mississauga (he's the beerandwinefilter.com guy) and I don't know if he's associated with the store but he had casually mentioned it to me as a place where I could pick up the hops, I've never been there though. He has some good prices on bulk hops if you are interested, I got a pound of whole leaf cascade for around $8 and a pound of amarillo for around $12 back in April, they gave me a summer of IPA's and I still have more left. Email him at sales@beerandwinefilter.com and he can send you a price list.

I do find it frustrating too how there is so little info online about what many of these places carry, I think Canadian Homebrew Supplies is one of the few that actually goes into detail about what product they carry. It makes it difficult to get all of one's ducks in a row to fulfill an ingredients list.
