Tree coming to LCBO

DDC prices are OK, not like they are super cheap in Quebec to begin with. The cheapest Aphrodisiacque seems to sell for in Quebec is about 2.80 a bottle, so DDC beer is worth what it sells for here.

Similarly, I will support whatever Tree beers I enjoy on the basis of being worth the cost, not necessarily the price.

Yup, I'm pretty sure I've paid between $2 and $3 a bottle for most of the DDC stuff I've bought in Montreal. The prices here are quite fair taking transport, etc. into account.

On some of the specialty flavors I understand DDC pricing, but they could have Corne du Diable flying off the shelf with a better price.

I think the last time I bought it in Montreal I paid around $14 for a six. It's currently $19.50 at the LCBO. That's a heck of a markup.

Look at some of the beers that come in from the US at the $14 dollar per six mark. Also highly crafted, with transport distance and rep fees.

DDC is not local, is not at all big scale, and is really good, and offers beers unlike anything we have, and is willing to put up with all Ontario's LCBO nonsense of re-labeling and renaming and cap-sealing products, and does not have a big distribution network to bring transport costs down, and does not even have a guaranteed prospect of long-term financial gain for managing these small Ontario orders.

So it's silly to wish that apples were oranges. Sure if Corne du Diable were made locally and sold year-round it could be cheaper. Sure if it were just another Unibroue then Sapporo could ship it here cheaper. But this is a brewpub beer, for God's sake.

Correct Josh. And the beer apparently hasn't changed for it, hence the implication of 'brewpub beer' - the production standard is uncompromised.

Loved it a year or so back and found it fresh, bitter and juicy. Had it a few times since and it didn't seem as good, but maybe I've just had too many IIPAs. Regardless, it will taste good in this beer desert.

When I was in B.C. this summer, Tree Hop Head was one of 37 different beers I sampled from the province and the western United States. I enjoyed it and think it will be a nice edition for Ontario beer drinkers, who should wish for more west coast beers, as my experience with them was largely outstanding. Driftwood, Crannog, Phillips, and Howe Sound are also making some very nice beers. My only quibble while in B.C. concerned Granville Island Brewery, whose beers by and large I found to be very average in comparison to many of the others.

Strangely enough, about the time Tree arrives here is about the time I plan on relocating to British Columbia.

Yes it is true - The LCBO placed the order a couple of weeks ago for our HopHead Double IPA and it will be delivered to the LCBO on January 25 2011 and will then be in stores Feb 27 2011 and we couldn't be more excited.

This is great! I have two special hopes to go with this.

2. Could this possibly, finally be the tip of the iceberg for more great BC beers on the shelves? (I'm looking at you Central City, Philips, Swans and friends)

We hope so! This is a one time buy of only 480 cases. We are told that dependent on how well this order sells will determine if the LCBO is intrested in more one time buys of our other seasonals and a full time year round listing of HopHead IPA

Corne du Diable also goes for $19-20/6-pack in AB and SK.
