What an absolute crock of huge steaming crap that answer is; it is up to BOTH parties to ensure the cask is served in prime condition.

In other words, SI/Heritage don't really give a hoot about their product once it's left their care, and the bar is after as much money from an old cask as possible, and it's 2 fingers to anyone who drinks a bad pint. They've got their money and ran! It's brewers and barkeeps like this that give cask a bad name and keep people away from a fantastic product.

Sid, you're just as passionate as local proprietor Rich from the King Eddy. He always makes sure it is in fine form.
If you've ever in the area, swing by there to sample cask and talk about.............well...........maybe England? Or cask Ale!

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of the only CASK beer between Toronto and Ottawa. The Ritz Deli North (Peterborough) has dropped the Fullers ESB from their bar.

Apparently the owner/manager couldn't get it delivered and didn't want to continue picking it up. The Ritz will see much less of my sorry arse....

Well, I hate to say it PoppiYYZ, but it likely wasn't cask ESB. It may have been a pulled through a handpump, but the Fuller's you drank was lmost certainly keg. There were 9 casks of ESB landed in Ontario in December, prior to that there were a few last January. That's it. Anything in between was keg. It's unfortunate that so many bar owners or bar staff have passed this off as cask-conditioned when it's actually keg at low pressure. There's nothing wrong with the keg ESB mind, I'm racing it against a cask in the bar right now. The cask is winning, but when it's gone that may well be it until next December. I hope you get the chance to try the real thing somewhere, then you'll know..............

As cratez and I discussed over a pint of CASK ESB last night, it's smoother than silkworm shit.

Just a quick note that cask ale is available in the Niagara area as well. There is a cask at Taps Brewhouse.

Starting Thursday March 17th Gambrinus Bistro & Cafe will be offering cask ales. Since this is a new territory for us, we are not sure about all the details how much and how quickly is will go.
More information can be found via link posted bellow.
We will be starting with firkin of SmashBomb since it has been our best selling draught during last few months. For now, we will try to tap a cask every Thursday and hopefully move all the beer by week's end.
If you are in the area on Thursday, come in and help us welcome our new baby to its long overdue home.

Hi all

Taps Brewhouse and Grill's "Growler Club" tomorrow will include a cask of "Big E's Choke Slam" (I didn't name it...) Imperial IPA (7%, 100 IBUs). It is dry hopped with two of the four hops I used during the boil. They are: Saphir and Pacific Gem.

As per the rules of the Growler Club, members get to taste first, then I *think* the tap and cask version of it is open to everyone either later that night or certainly the next day. I'll look into the details.

Cheers,

Ian

I am very excited for this tomorrow. I was wondering what the next beer would be.

As mentioned in another thread, Grand Electric will soon be getting a cask.

Also, Grapefruit Moon (Bathurst, N of Bloor) has installed a cask engine and after a few final tweaks they hope to have it pouring today. No word yet what will be on cask.

Rumour has it that Keriwa Cafe will also be serving cask, though I last heard of this from them back in August, so no word on an ETA there.

Anyway, just some positive updates on the local scene.

Very true King Eddie ! I "mis-spoke" when I said Fullers ESB, it was in fact an Ontario ESB at Ritz Deli North. Durham I believe. Very very good...

Man - Fuller's ESB on cask...that stuff was created to be on cask!
