FYI - For anyone who hasn't tried it yet, I think the Ephemere Apple is super cool and super tasty, I've been evangelizing it for a couple of weeks now, since I tried it at C'est What? but can't seem to find it at any LCBO's or Beer Stores - Can anyone help??

I saw 750ml bottles of Ephemere at the Summerhill store last week on the top shelf on the back wall. They were directly under the light, so I'd recommend reaching to the back of the shelf where it is darker.

Their number is (416) 922-0403 (I think!) if you want to call and check on their stock.

I can't seem to find it on the LCBO website anymore - it wasn't that long ago that it was on there and that there was a decent amount around the GTA - what gives?

I really don't understand the point of having a fancy inventory management system and website in place if the LCBO isn't going to use it to get reliable availability info out to consumers. Some stuff doesn't get listed at all, other things get pulled after only a few weeks. What gives? Your guess is as good as mine. You can always email the LCBO Infoline at infoline@lcbo.com to get more store and product info, but it really should be easier than that.

From what I've seen, the Ephemere is still pretty widely available, though.

Never underestimate my inability to use a website, but from what I could attempt on the search engine, nothing of the sort was coming up. But it is good to hear that it can still be found out there. I haven't been to an LCBO in about a couple of weeks, so that is why I was so surprised to see a posting wondering where it could be found, as it was in decent supply on my last visit. By this point though, I'm kind of used to disappearing and reappearing LCBO products.

I think you may have slightly misinterpreted my previous post. Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. The Ephemere listing has been pulled from the website. It's still available--I saw some at Summerhill, too--but searching under "Unibroue" or "Ephemere" yields no results, hence my criticism of the LCBO's website which exhibits the same annoying problem time and again. You can always e-mail (or call) the Infoline to get the availability info that doesn't come up on the website, but it would be that much easier if the website simply maintained accurate info for all current products.

I remember trying the Ephemere mixed pack last summer and found them all to be incredibly carbonated and prickly on the tongue. I also found them to be lacking in fruit taste and was a little disappointed. Am I just describing what it’s suppose to taste like and not appreciating it for what it is? I guess I was thinking the Ephemere Apple would taste similar to the Niagara Falls Apple Ale. I’ll have to give it another try the next time I’m at the Woolwich Arms or if the bottles find their way to Kitchener.

Side note - we had a keg party years ago at Brock University and had two kegs of the Niagara Falls Apple Ale. The next morning our house could have been mistaken for a wasps nest and smelt like an apple orchard…..what a mess. Tupalev, were you at that one?

Well, that takes me back Beer Geek. Yes, I was there (I've got pictures somewhere!) and the apple ale was very tasty from the keg from what I recall - pity I wasn't there for the clean up though! My tastings out of the bottle have never matched the heights scaled that the keg offered.

I was just looking over my notes from trying the big bottle of the Ephemere Apple a couple of months ago. I quite enjoyed it, I didn't find it over carbonated at all, although it was quite active. The aroma was incredible when you pop the top and I thought it achieved a balance that a lot of fruit beers never quite seem to achieve. Still, I remarked that I couldn't drink too many at once (I could say the same for many fruit beers). So I would suggest Beer Geek that maybe you give it another try - while not having as intense flavours as the Niagara, I think it actually turns out to be a superior attempt at the style (keg notwithstanding).
