definately not a saturated market, accessability is why im not able to try and return to 10BY

Which proves the point that advertising works, so why is Black Oak so negligent when it comes to promoting themselves? Honestly. How can you be surprised and disappointed that a product you only make available in an industrial plaza in Etobicoke and do next to nothing to promote fails to sell quickly?

I just had my last TBY which I bought a few months ago. It is still drinking very well. It kept it's bitterness better than the first batch did at this age. I would have drank it more often, but I can only get it by making the 90km drive to Ebtoicoke, so hence I try to make it last.

I guess it's because fewer people than the first time made the distant pilgrimage to deal with the odd hours, surprise closings and non-descript location (I sheepishly admit, at first attempt I could not FIND Black Oak, as it was pretty hard to spot driving up and down that road.)

Other than that, there is probably less anxiety motivating people to jump those hurdles when something is not new anymore. We are conditioned to panic that we'll "miss out" on any new beer in this province.

I've only tried this beer once and I absolutely loved it. For me, it's simply that I can't get to the brewery. Aside from not living in Toronto, I don't have a car that could be used to transport any significant amount of beer. If this were available at the LCBO, it would definitely be a regular purchase of mine, but I know the same goes for a lot of people and doesn't add anything new to the discussion.

This is so key, it seems like we live in the only place that gets a single beer from a single brewery for a single month of the year at the LCBO. Which leads to a hoarding mindset and a belief that it is all gone all too quick.

That is an interesting statement.

The only reason anyone panics is because when a great beer does comes out, some jackass on this forum or hoarding licensee, comes and gobbles up every single bottle, and so it creates a fury and vicious cycle of hoarding and panic. Meh.

But that is the crux of the biscuit, as a great man once said.

I`m sure in a few months you`d be hard pressed to find a St.Bernardus floating around, but something like that is available year-round (or at least more available) in other markets.

Perhaps it will be. Perhaps not. I'll be fine with things either way, as access to one single beer, has little to no bearing on my life whatsoever.

There are many markets in the private sector that have products available, which are only available for a limited time.

I would if I still had some, but my stock was gone a long time ago. If you are going to go to the trouble of trading for it, you might be best to hold off until the next batch is out. If I recall, this batch was bottled in September, so it has 4 months on it already. I don't care how good a DIPA is, 4 months of age make a substantial difference.

But there's no "scarcity mentality" that you can compare. Stores in those markets can order practically anything available they want, when they want.

The LC fails at the store level in this regard because every store is tied to an overarching (unwieldy?) provincial system. It's practically set up to shut out free market choice.
