They should have shipped some down from Barrie. My brother picked up a few 6s of 606 for me back in November, and was just at the store again yesterday and he said it doesn't look like anyone's touched it since he was there last...

I gave up calling the two Beer Stores in Ottawa that were supposed to get some. Don't know if they ever did but I stopped calling after about 2 months of weekly shouts.

Hyland Manager says next Monday for both beers. I won't be making it in until Wednesday but I'll post an update then.

I appreciate the heads up. Went and snagged a half case of each beer and was surprised to find that, despite its August bottling date, the Czech Mate is still tasting as bright and fresh as I remember it to be. Unfortunately the hops have faded in the 606 (late October bottling) but it's still drinking better than most pales and IPAs that we have access to.

I'll be buying a lot more of the Czech Mate so long as it continues to hold up, and will maybe grab another sixer of the 606 just to show my gratitude to Paddock Wood for sending these beers our way. Originally they weren't going to ship any product to London - save for the distribution centre - but Steve was very receptive when I suggested the Hyland store instead. Here's my BA review of the Czech Mate:

A- / 4.05
look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | drink: 4.5

355ml bottle from a 6-pack purchased at the Hyland Centre Beer Store. Pours a bright yellow hue with a sliver of white froth, some chill haze, and spots of lacing on the pint glass. Lots of bubbly carbonation in the body. Smell is lemony hops, plastic, yeast, flower pedals, perfume, cookie dough, and honey. Very complex and aromatic, especially for a beer of this weight. Taste is soft cracker-like malts, sweet cereal grains, biscuit, touch of metal, grassy, lemony, and weedy hops, gentle Saaz bitterness to end. Medium mouthfeel is crisp upfront, creamy-foamy carbonation mid-palate, zesty and prickly hop bite transitions to a dry finish with more lemon on the cough.

Holy shit - this high quality, easy drinking micro brew is LOADED with bold flavours and aromas. Paddock Wood proves that a session pilsner doesn't have to be boring. A top flight example of the style, and easily my second favourite pils after Victory Prima. I'll be grabbing much more of this now that it's available in London. Bravo!

Finally got a six of this, at the Summerhill store. Packaged on August 4 so a mere 7 months old. Five of the six bottles foamed like a mad dog, even after 24 hours in the fridge. A couple bottles had a few little dark-brown blobs.

Despite all that, it tasted great. I would love to get this stuff fresh.

Earlier I was one of the posters who mentioned some off bottles of Czech Mate dated Aug 4. In the last few weeks I've had two six packs of 606 dated Jan 14 and I'm happy to report both packs were great. All the Czech Mates at my local TBS still carry the Aug 4 date so I haven't bothered with them.

Thanks for posting. I have sent two shipments after August, and that summer was a rough one. I had no idea August stuff was still out there, so I have arrange for all Aug to be pulled.

Cheers,

Good Evening,

We are working out the distribution for Paddock Wood: 606 IPA and Czech Mate Pilsner to enable more consistent pull through of our brands here in Ontario. We have recently been purchasing listings at The Beer Store as we are in the process of submitting applications at getting into your local Lcbo here in Ontario. We have shipped out fresh stock and I also have advised TBS that should any product be past 5 months old we will need to pull and replenish. If you need a list of TBS stores I will be updating on my North American Craft webpage on facebook or I can also submit updates online here at Bartowel. We will be focusing on Self Serve Beer stores in the near future as this is where Craft Beer tends to sell. If you have any suggestions please let me know as we will be focusing on Toronto and expanding outwards including: Combination and Agency Stores at the Cottage in Ontario.

Thanks for your feedback and if there are any stores out there with product older than 5 months please let me know the address of the store including city and we will take care of this matter immediately.

Thank you for all your support and I hope I may have the chance to meet with some of you over a pint of beer or two!

Claude Lefebvre
North American Craft
Cheers!

The Beer Store in Ottawa has made a dog's breakfast of this. They have it listed on their website as available in two locations here in Ottawa but I've called off and on for the past 6 months and have been greeted with "I've never heard of it" to "We are supposed to get it with the next shipment" and it never comes. The main store downtown got all of 8 cases and the guy I talked to today said it didn't last with all of the people that constantly call for it. They have reordered but no TBA when it will be come in.

He quoted me 3 other stores that should have stock but I'm afraid if it's Aug 4 bottled, should I venture a drive across town to get some.

Stick with the LCBO for a listing in Ontario.
