Looks like a good line up to me, I've tried a couple of them before, and so far the only Rogue I've disliked was the Kells, so I've got good hopes.

What does this say to the bean counters at the LCBO? And somewhat proves my point about beer geeks in Ontario.
There is definitely a bias towards novelty, but I am not sure using a beer at the price point of the Ola Dubh's as the example is the best indicator. The repeat sales for something like Rogue Chocolate, or Souther Tier Gemini would be better tests imho.

Also, if people are interested in other Rogue stuff it might be worth finding out who the agent is to see if they can be private ordered along with that shipment.
As for Ola Dubh, I live in Barrie and the 40 sold out here. Both times it was released. How many stores was it released to? There are only 10 stores in the entire province showing more than 10 bottles of it left in inventory. How many cases came in the release? A few months later, there is maybe 150 bottles of the stuff left. It will sell through eventually.

I would really appreciate it if Steelback could let us in on whether or not corporate considers the release to have been successful. I may very well be wrong, looking at it from the outside in with limited information.

For those interested in getting a little headstart on the LCBO's Rogue release, I've got a couple bottles just in of the Rogue XS Imperial Stout. Four available for trade. I'll post over on the beer trading forum as well. Just PM me if you are interested.

I've had 15 different beers from Rogue and the Kells was the second least enjoyable, surpassed only by the John John Ale. Everything else I've had from them I've enjoyed or really enjoyed.

Everything Rogue make is generally good, but few to me are very exciting. There are some good ones. Outstanding choices would have been:

Mocha Porter (** the BEST**)
Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout
Chocolate Stout

Still if the Brutal Bitter is 'on' this year that will make my day. And I'll (re)try some others. Rogue is usually at least fun to drink, so it has that going for it.

The Morimoto is one I quite enjoyed in the US before, but the Chipotle...man I couldn't finish a bottle of that. I will be interested to hear what people think of it. I think I needed to pair it with a proper meal to get the real impact....looking forward to these.

I had a 4 oz sample that was brutal, but I've been wrong on first impressions.

Love to see the $$ on these! Ontario prices are often low, still Rogue has a US rep for being pricier side-to-side with, say, Stone. Now THERE's a brewer that would freak out Ontarians if they did a feature... Stone IPA, Smoked Porter and Imperial Stout alone would rock our worlds here. It seems they will not do business this far away.

A stone LCBO feature would be amazing. Especially if they included the Imperial Stout...

Agree, a Stone feature would be great. Add Arrogant Bastard and its Double to the LCBO and watch them fly off the shelf. How about Founders Breakfast Stout? At least it's closer to home.......no chance, not in this province or my lifetime.

Would love to see Stone featured, especially if they brought in Ruination.

While not as good as a release, Stone had a booth at Mondiale in Montreal last year and I sampled several of their beers. Hopefully they will return again this year.

Love to threadjack. I know Stone doesn't view our market as something they need to deal with (so much red tape, too much distance) but I'm also fairly certain Ontario buyers would have a special affinity to Stone's products that just might make it worthwhile to the brewery. It could just be one of those things that works - if the LC doesn't interfere officiously with every name and bottle graphic etc.

Volo has some nice Stone beers on offer by the way.
