I wanted to brew my first batch of beer sometime next month ( will likely try a DIPA) and I am slowly going to source the needed equipment and ingredients together. I think the pots look to be the most expensive item to purchase, especially for a beginner's inventory. I was perusing Walmart today and saw a 20 quart pot for only 40 bucks. The only problem is that it had a non stick surface like Teflon. Is that acceptable for boiling the wort or will it impart something undesirable? The other pots were stainless steel but were about 90 bucks a pop.
If the non stick pots are unacceptable, can anyone recommend a place to get suitable, inexpensive pots?

Are non-stick pots non-usable for brewing?
I have no answer regarding non-stick surfaces, but not too long ago I was on the same search with a tight budget and ended up with this one: - it was down to $60 when I got it, and free shipping is nice. It's a bit big for my extract brewing at the moment, especially since my stove is a bit too weak for a full boil, but it should make the upgrade to all-grain a bit easier. It's not the thickest steel in the world but I haven't had any scorching problems on my gas stove, at least.

Nice find. They also have a 20 quart pot for only $45. The free shipping is great too. Thanks!
If you are brewing over flame I would imagine you'll burn the teflon off at some point by accident.Lukie wrote:

But then, I avoid that stuff because of PFOA concerns in the kitchen too.
I've also found some inexpensive pots on Costco, for anyone who's interested. 50 bucks for a 20 quart, with free shipping.
