Liked Duggan's London porter and the dry stout which I think were the #8 and 10. Found the food to be decent pub fare and overall a good beer destination in the downtown. Glad to hear Duggan's is likely to reopen.

That is quite the overreaction from the landlord.

I actually swung by this afternoon hoping for a pint after a business meeting that ended early. Was disappointed to see all the lights out and that alarming notice. Ended up at the Beer Bistro instead...

Hopefully it will reopen. Seems like the landlord has a chronic problem...himself (or herself). From my understanding they screwed over Denisons, and now perhaps Duggans.... would likely make any bar potential think twice...nice location, but not THAT nice. I agree having a long term stable tenant at lower rent is much better than multiple unstable tenants at a high rent. I of course do not own the building, and maybe something else is going on...

Perhaps if they have all the Rickard's colours on offer this won't happen again. 8)

Bobsy wrote:Good news that they'll be back. After Troy called me I swang by there to check it out and it was indeed barred with notices on both doors. I would have missed this place, but more so the beers. I've not been a fan of some of the recent brews, but the original opening lineup is still very strong, and the pils is some of the best I've ever had.
This. Glad to have the pils back for growler/patio season.

I wont ever go back to the place. Tried five beers, four of them sucked. At least the wings were good.

Maybe if a certain Toronto beer celebrity paid his bills Mr. Duggan could pay the rent.

Looks like Duggan's is done there. I'm sure there are lots of factors but I have to imagine that huge space not being utilized/full was among the chief.

I know some won't be sad but the more good beer Toronto can support the better. I was looking forward to more of that pils this summer!

I don't know the whole story behind the recent incident but I heard the landlord didn't like the use of those smaller "pint" glasses.

I'm gonna miss that porter.

Everytime I went in there, I wondered 'why all the square footage?' I think people appreciated the food and beer, but to carry that overhead Duggan's may have needed a lot more business (we don't know how much more.)

Ironically the brewpub seemed to have trouble meeting the demand for properly matured beers at the current 'inadequate' sales level (note 'green' beer comments.) If Duggans were much busier could the brew kettles and kitchen keep up?

Maybe it's just a cursed location.

Me too, on the patio they were going to open. Hope to see Duggan's beers regularly at C'est What and other places. The #99 was becoming actually very tasty. But maybe Cool Brewing will just be handling the big sellers?

Good news.
Oh, so I guess I was misinformed by Duggan's. Perhaps wishful thinking on their part.

Anyway, sorry to see them go, it is never a good thing to see brewpubs or bars committed to craft beer culture close.

I should have checked the forum before heading over for lunch. Looks like I'm only 6 weeks behind the times.
