Its a lifestyle choice, but it definitely frees one up for minor road trips to check out breweries and such.
Amen to that!

:P
An idée fixe is a preoccupation of mind held so firmly as to resist any attempt to modify it, a fixation.
How so? I figure that would apply to someone on either side of the fence. I agree with both sides. :D

If someone doesn't have kids because they find them obnoxious and financial burdens, they're selfish. If they don't have them because they don't want to contribute to the over-population of the world, they're being selfless.

If someone wants to have kids because they're fixated on the idea of having a 'little extension of themselves', they're being selfish. If they want to have kids to ensure the survival of our species and genuinely want to provide a good life for a new person, they're being selfless.

Different people have different reasons for having or not having kids. But what offends me most is when people get all preachy and ignorant about it either way. Personally, I find that pulling my head out of my ass gives me more time to drink beer :D .

JesseM,

I'm definitely selfish, but I use the selfless argument with others. ;)

I'm having a kid because my wife refuses to get me beer from the fridge and the cat doesn't have opposable digits.

Shame your parents didn't have the same realization.
Not very nice, Jon. Must say I'm surprised to see that coming from you.
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!

One missing "chuckle" emoticon and I'm scorned. We can all get our backs up Len. Kinda like a few years back when you wrote;

May I ask where you work? I'll be in your region next week and I'd love to come to your place of business and make your life miserable.
At least I didn't threaten the guy! I just wanted him to be aware that dismissing the value of having kids is pretty cavalier considering had his own parents shared his viewpoint he wouldn't be here to spend all his money of beer.

But if I offended I apologize.

No offence taken. :)
It was indeed a cavalier comment on a serious topic. As for my opinion, when I put it out here, I am happy to be commented on and vice versa. In fact it's a topic I often discuss seriously F2F with friends and family (including my parents) .
Now - back to the smart assedness and beer! Cheers Jon!!

PS re: my parents - the beauty of that scenario is I'd never know and they might be wealthier! :D... unless.... set the WABAK to 1964 Sherman and bring a box of condems!!

Well it's my fault I guess.
I took your comment less tongue in cheek and more along the lines of you suggesting that you had wished Terry's parents never had him ...hahah. So that is why it bothered me....well it bothered me more cause I figured you guys did not even know eachother. ANyway, I see that it was a joke now so I'll work on getting my back up less. Sorry bout that.

As for my quote there........well.......what can I say. I likely wouldn't write that now. SOmetimes we get all riled up like you say, Jon. I guess I need to drink less before I post and also think before I type. I'll work on that.
In fact, I'll work on being a better member of our community.

But I definitely would have good on that threat BTW.....:)
Remember that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry goes to heckle the heckler at her work...................... :P

It may be time to close this thread.

...Settle down guys.
I don’t care what the U.N. says, I don’t recognize countries that don’t produce beer.

I can't believe people are getting bent out of shape over other people not valuing progeny / joking about it. That's quite sad and seems to lack any sense of humor.

Yes it's great we're all here and alive, we're a each genetic miracle, woohoo thanks to all those successful ancestors. But it's ceased to mean quite the same thing for survival. World population isn't just increasing, it's accelerating at an alarming rate. Our resources are disappearing and humans are not nice to each other when they are all after a crucial limited resource (how about unending planetary war.)

It's time we put the brakes on our rampant human population - and get over any personal sense of nobility just for creating offspring. When it comes to regulating our population we're a lot less intelligent than 'lesser' mammals, who instinctively adjust their numbers in tune with their environment.

Now - can we talk about Buffalo beer runs! :)
