Yes it's great we're all here and alive, we're a each genetic miracle, woohoo thanks to all those successful ancestors. But it's ceased to mean quite the same thing for survival. World population isn't just increasing, it's accelerating at an alarming rate. Our resources are disappearing and humans are not nice to each other when they are all after a crucial limited resource (how about unending planetary war.)
It's time we put the brakes on our rampant human population - and get over any personal sense of nobility just for creating offspring. When it comes to regulating our population we're a lot less intelligent than 'lesser' mammals, who instinctively adjust their numbers in tune with their environment.

You're absolutely right, it's the colossal elephant in the room. Anyone who looks at a graphical representation of the global population rate of increase can make the obvious extrapolation that inevitably leads to "Oh shit....".
For various reasons, ranging from selfish to altruistic, Canadians are making 'lifestyle decisions' that have virtually halted the birth rate. In fact, it's projected to be negative in less than 20 years. Good, right? Well, not necessarily. People in other countries clearly are not making these 'lifestyle decisions', and their populations will continue to increase as before. At the same time, Canada will continually increase immigration rates to pick up the slack as the current population ages. So when Canadians make an altruistic sacrificial choice to not produce offspring, it may just be in vain..

World population growth has slowed quite a bit the last 10 years. Yes, population is increasing, but at a rate slower than has been seen 50 years or more.

Yes, the year on year growth rate as a percentage has decreased, especially in developed countries. But the absolute population keeps going up and up...just under 7 billion today, expected to hit 7.5-10.5 by 2050. I assume that this is the fact that he intended to refer to...

Just finished a first time beer run to Buffalo and went to Consumer's and Premier based off of the suggestions in the thread. A little overwhelming! Hard to know what to get and as it was a sameday trip, I didn't wanna get too greedy. I imagine I still could've picked up at least another 24 bottles without worrying too much but it was a shopping trip too so it wasn't a complete failure. =)

Nope...it was a duty free trip! That included my beer and about $200 worth of clothing etc. And i was completely honest with the customs officer.
