Junction Conductor's Pale Ale

I hadn't had this before, so I ordered it at Volo recently.

I expected a typical APA, similar to so many I've had before (not that it can't be good).

What a surprise, this is a very English pint with rich malt (Maris Otter or that type) and flowery hops that strongly remind of fine English hop fields.

Such a nice change from the pale ale you usually encounter in North America, and superior by a fair margin, IMO. Well done, Junction, keep it coming.

This is now my favourite Ontario-made regular strength beer together with, on the lager side, Galt Knife Old Style.

Yeah I liked this, good rounded feel to it with tasteful but lively hops.

I checked the company website and there the beer is called Conductor's Craft Ale, at Volo I think the board said, Junction Conductor's Pale Ale. It is definitely a pale ale in style.

The website says malts from different countries, including UK are used, and hops from different countries again but not England in this case! Well, it still tastes English to me, like an ESB in fact.

On cask this would be superb and I see they will be at Cask Days. Good news.

Agreed. Had it via kask at Say Wha last nuit and it was superb. I concur it's more in the ESB style than EPA or APA, [follows Mill St. ESB in the malt bill (heavy on the Marris Otter), at least]. Beautiful, szechuanable pint. Will seek this one out (on kask) in the future. You'll love it at Kaskdayz, Gary.

Thanks for the comments. Glad you are enjoying the beer. we set up Junction Craft Brewing to contract brew this beer with Tom Patterson doing sales deliveries and promotion and David Hayes doing graphic design.

This beer is our first brand and is called Conductors craft ale. I chose the APA style because IPAs are often so badly done (by that i mean no balance, hard to drink more than one) I wanted to make a beer with decent hop character that fits in with the malt profile, and finishes cleanly on the palate to let you have more than one. I kept it to 5.2% alc/vol so you could drink 3 in a session and still be able to get up safely.

There was no Maris Otter harmed in the making of this beer. we used a little muntons light crystal which is as close to britain as we got. 5 different malts were used in total.

Without cheating and looking on the web, any guesses as to which hops we used? Hint think pacific northwest meets old school europe...

Welcome, Doug Pengelly! And hops-wise I have no clue - I just appreciate a beer with balance that also has some tasty depth to it and some 'oomph.'

My favorites right now are Stone IPA and Red Racer, pale styles which as a hop mutant I am happy to enjoy a few of. ESBs and APAs and everything in between are all welcome, the more dimensional, peachy and delicate the hops the better. Cheers!

Good to see you here Doug. Had one the other day at beer bistro and it was excellent again, the hops forward but with rich malt too. I can see what you mean by APA, it is that I see now, but well-balanced which is why perhaps I thought of English beer. Excellent new product, keep it coming.
