It was crowned "Worlds Best Beer" (among four others including Weihenstephaner Vitus) at the 2010 World Beer Awards . It's the top notch Unibroue beer, right up there with Terrible.JeffPorter wrote:Is it worth the $10?

They're on to us. They're in stores, but most are hiding them in back 'til the current promotion is done. They're not registering them on the website yet so we won't know where to go and pester the help.

Spoke with someone from the Liberty Village LCBO; they have a couple cases of Unibroue 17. For some reason it is not showing up on the website but according to their internal system a number of stores in downtown Toronto (Queens Quay, Danforth & Victoria Park, Young and Wellesley, etc.) have it in stock. Just call your local LCBO and ask them to perform a search to tell you what stores have the new beers in stock.

In fairness to the "front-line staff" at the LC, they're getting hit pretty hard right now with stock...Went to Orion Gate last night...it was disappointing, but what was notable were the sheer number of boxes of gift pack (wine, whiskey etc) all over the floor.
It's probably just going to take them a while to sort out - and also...they seemed to have come out early this year!

I've never had it either. I did pick up three last night though. Cracking into one tonight. I love the trois pistoles as well. I'm hoping this to be similar to la terrible though.JeffPorter wrote:I've never had Unibroue 17 - anything familiar to compare it to? If I like trois pistoles will I like this? Is it worth the $10?

A 8 or 10 month-old bottle from PG. (Edit - bottle is original brewing from 2008 or something like that.)JeffPorter wrote:I've never had Unibroue 17 - anything familiar to compare it to? If I like trois pistoles will I like this? Is it worth the $10?
Challenging and strange, but it's unusual with a lot of impressive character unlike other beer. Mulled spiced cherry, dark berries, cinnamon, rustic Italian dry grape/wine flavor like Ripasso. I'm not going crazy stocking up, may go get one more to be sure.
Anyone tried the 2011 Fullers, he asked knowing full well this Q should be under 'beer reviews...'

Well the packaging on the 'new edition' you bought indicates it is a NEW brewing of the same recipe from 3 years ago. But it also says it is aged in oak (or near oak, beside oak - made oakish in some permutation.) I don't think the last one was oaky in any way. Will RateBeer encourage a separate oaky entry?uno99 wrote:Anyone know the details of this beer?
When was it brewed? is it the same recepie as the old 17?
It would be hard to compare the ones I got with the old Uni 17 since that was a well-aged, possibly damaged bottle, and these are newer ones aged in oak. But it's a cool and exciting development from the normally predictable Unibroue.
