So I went to a Beer Store today for the first time in a little bit and there were signs around about how all the pricing is now just "product price only", so deposit and HST added at the register.
I don't remember reading anything about this, but I presume it's tied to the changes with convenience.
Any insights? I feel like it's a way to make the prices seem lower, when in fact they're likely rising. Is this what convenience stores are doing?
I wonder if all alcohol retailers will move to this model if it starts to take hold...

Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

I’d have to try and find and check old receipts to be sure, but when I’ve ordered direct from breweries, I’m sure sometimes the listed price was the price, and sometimes HST was added on. There’s pros and cons to each method. I’m conflicted about which one I prefer, but mostly I want consistency.
Of the two closest to me, Third Moon adds the HST when checking out while Badlands is all-in. It is to the point where I add the HST in my head when dealing with TM but anywhere I am paying cash I like to know how much to have in my hand at the checkout.

Yes, as I understand it convenience store pricing, Costco pricing, is pre tax and deposit, so TBS is obviously changing to make their prices directly comparable (and not sound "higher").
It would seem to me a rather clever way to stir the pot for the TBS is if they showed both prices. They must have enough room on the labels. Then, instead of having an irritating conversation with a customer at checkout, they could call out the extra charges and educate.

Tangential.
Presumably as a response from these places displaying the pre-tax price, the LCBO now has a text box that informs online shoppers of their pricing. British-vacation inspired:
ALL-IN(CLUDED) PRICE
Includes tax and bottle deposit
