Church-Key Spring Revival

It's that time of year again. Church-Key Brewing's Spring Revival is Saturday, May 7. Lot's of great music, food, and of course beer. This year we are planning to run a bus from Toronto to Campbellford and back. The cost would be $20 and include refreshments leaving the city around 9:30 (sites to be determined). We have room for exactly 47, so it's first reserved, first served. If interested, call the brewery @ 1-877-314-2337 and book your seat with the usual plastic suspects. Proceeds from this event go to charity so it's a lot of fun and a great cause.

That might be something the girlfriend and I may come out to if the weather is nice. One question though for those that live around that area. I see that there are two provincial parks, one near Campbellford called Ferris and the other south of Brighton called Presqu'lle. Are either of those two suitable for rollerblading?

Lister, it has been a few years since I was at both those parks. Ferris is a much smaller park than Presquille and more suitable to a small camp / hike sort of thing. Presquille has a very nice marsh and water boardwalk but again, up until a few years ago, nothing struck me as being roller blade friendly. This could have changed. If you are around the Quinte area, it is well worth the drive to go over to Prince Edward County and visit Sandbanks, by far the best Provincial Park in the area. Plus, you'll run in to a couple other micro's and wineries along the way on a gorgeous drive. The Trent Severn Waterway offers some nice park areas as well on the way to Campbellford and beyond.

And be sure to check out the revival, this year will be the first one I miss in 4 years because of a previous commitment, but John and company always put on a good time down there for the local area charities. And you won't have a glass of Churchkey that tastes as good and fresh (or is as cheap) and the ones served there. Enjoy.

So my girlfriend and I made the trek on Saturday. The drive was nice and pleasant. Pethericks Corners is small. Very small. Pretty much just four corners of an intersection. We got there at 11:15am which was good later as nearby parking became more difficult to come by.

I tried everything but the chocolate porter. The Holy Smoke was better than I dreaded as I carried it back to our bench. For a dark beer it's fairly light and maybe something I could drink on the rare occasion as the third beer with dinner. The lager was, well, the lager. The Northumberland and Cranberry Maple were the two I was anticipating the most. The former tasted great as always. The latter however was different from our first try at Smokeless last weekend. The Smokeless brew didn't have as much tart cranberry out in the forefront as the batch at Church Key. I guess the cranberry taste diminishes over time (which is a good thing in my books.) We picked up two sixpacks of Northumerland and Cranberry. I also got a couple of beer glasses and a t-shirt.

The sausages were big, the burgers small, and the soup spicy (at the veggie booth.) We stayed for four bands and left half way through the group that had the young kids in it. As soon as we saw the Iron Maiden shirt on the bass player we said "Uh-oh!" The first song was okay then it got loud and unintelligible which isn't our scene.

And whoever are the parents of that high-pitched loud squealing five/six year old boy that was left on the park bench, you should get beatings. That kid was louder than the kids on stage. Geez.

Overall a good time. Except for the sunburn.

DOH!

Then we went to St. Veronus in Peterborough for dinner...
