Well, I tried this recently since curiosity got the cat. First I should say I am not a fan of Tuborg Gold. The Pilsener version at 4.6% abv (why the slight reduction from a standard 5%?) is actually quite good and better than its stablemate. It has a racy hoppy edge against a light body, as if it was a good North German pilsener slightly watered down. But very drinkable, an excellent session import. Still, neither Tuborg tastes like I recall it in the late 1970's in Montreal. It had at the time when fresh a distinctive soft honey/yeasty flavor that seems lost 30 years later. But this Pils-style is good, it has no pasteurisation caramelisation, no "cooked" taste that is, and is nice taken in quantity: clean, refreshing, tasty. There is a certain European hop taste that our micro lager brewers don't seem to reach except Cameron's Lager sometimes (and then it is unbeatable). Pilsner Urquel has it but I mean the racy Hallertau (or that type) taste, not Saaz. So this provides a good example of that. I can see it chasing down the local vodka and acquavits and no doubt that is part of its vocation there.

To me this beats the other North European pils imports, the German styles like DAB (okay that may be a true Dortmunder, I don't know), or Becks (kind of a style unto itself), Warsteiner, or Holsten. For that style of beer I think Tuborg Pils is the best I've had on this side of the sea anyway.
