I was at the baview village lcbo today and they've already begun to stock some of the september release, such as rogue dead guy, badger tanglefoot, and black wych(I don't know why they're punishing us with this one again, why couldn't we get young's oatmeal or double chocolate?). not that it matters all that much, but I think that rogue changed the bottle artwork slightly on the dead guy. still tastes the same.

Is there a complete list of the LCBO September beers available? I seem to recall seeing it on this site somewhere (at perhaps the Christmas list as well?), but now I can't find it. How about posting it the first page, Cass - it's starting to get a little cobwebby anyway.

Here's the list of September beers:

Pinkus Muller Alt 330 mL
Black Wych Stout 500 mL
Badger Tanglefoot Ale 500 mL
Daleside Old Leg Over 500 mL
Castle Eden Special Ale 500 mL
Smuttynose Old Brown Dog 355 mL
Brakespear Ted and Ben's Organic Beer 500 mL
Rogue Dead Guy Ale 650 mL
Strong Suffolk Ale 500 mL
Aecht Schlenherla Rauchbier 500 mL
Well's Bombardier Ale 568 mL

You're right, Greg, the front page does need a serious refresh. Need to find time to create some content...

Anyone want to write pub or brewery reviews for the site?

Actually, after my Montreal road trip last weekend, I was thinking that I should've taken some notes at the Schoune brewery and offered to write a profile for the site.

I could still put together something for you, although it'll probably be on the short side. I'll need to get some other writing commitments out of the way over the next week or two, but if you're interested, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Haven't seen much of the new Sept. beers except for the Dead Guy, Tangle Foot and Black Wytch. Anyone else have any luck?

While we're on this subject - I'm wondering if people could mention which LCBOs in Toronto that they've found the best selection of these special beer releases. (Being easily accessable via transit from Parkdale would be an added bonus.)

Personally, I tend to frequent the Atrium on Bay, Manulife Centre, St. Lawrence Market and Spadina & Dundas locations, and usually manage to find most of what I'm looking for by visiting all four. But they can all be spotty with their selection, and it would be nice to know of one place that tends to stock the full set each time around.

I cover off Chinatown, Davisville and Queen's Quay normally, occasionally the Atrium if I'm in the neighbourhood. The latter two have not, to my knowledge, stocked any of the fall beers yet and the former is always rather spotty.

So I'm hoping these downtown stores start putting those beers on the shelf soon cause I have a distinct lack of rauchbier in my life right now.

I don't even go into Manulife anymore, nor Summerhill til they get it opened for real.

The official promotion launch date is September 19th but, in the past, most stores had the product out before then. This release is unusual in that regard in that the product is appearing sporadically. I can tell that most of these beers have been here for almost 3 months awaiting release. As for best stores, if you act early, Queen's Quay is always your best bet. Also, the quantities being allocated to Queen's Quay are considerably higher than most other stores but, then again, they still seem to run out of the popular items within the first 2-3 weeks of the 8 week promo.

Well, I spoke to the "guy-in-the-know" at the Davisville and Yonge location on Friday and he has no idea about a September release.

So, he kindly pointed out all the newer additions to their store within the past few months... this is new and so is this and this... Yes, I know... I know... I know... Thank you... Have a nice day.

FYI, St. Peter's Organic is actually St. Peter's English Ale (sold in Canada and the U.S. as English Ale and in the U.K. as Organic Ale). This product is not part of the Fall promo but rather a new permanent addition to the LCBO General List. You'll also probably notice the slightly different bottle necessitated by a new bottling line as well as the new price....$2.95 as opposed to $3.50 for the LCBO seasonal offerings. Needless to say, neither we nor the brewery make much at this price but we're hoping for volume and we're hoping Bartowellers support this new addition to the General List. So far the response after one month on the shelves has been fantastic and we're really enthusiastic about the reception this product has received.

One other comment, the Ted & Ben's Organic is also Vegan (all you granola heads can just go crazy) and is the last beer we'll see in Ontario which was brewed at the Brakspear brewery in Henley. A company has purchased the rights to the Brakspear name but will apparently only brew a few of their offerings and Ted & Ben's won't be one of them nor with the Brakspear Bitter. As mentioned to Bartowellers previously, Brakspear's brewmaster has acquired the rights to Coniston Bluebird Bitter which was brewed by Brakspear and we hope to see it in Ontario next year.
