Betty's on King East now has cask ale
Betty's on King East now has cask ale
I normally go to C'est What or Smokeless Joe's for my Cask Ale fix, but I went into Betty's on King East this past weekend for the first time in months, and while I was sitting at the bar drinking a Mill Street Tankhouse, I noticed that there was a hand pump there!
Bartender said they installed it about three months ago, and they sell Wellington Arkell Best Bitter on cask; they've been selling a decent amount and they tap a new cask about every 3 - 4 days.
Tasted really great, and I went back last night and had some more - think I'll be going to Betty's more often for fresh cask beer (which will be convenient since I live practically next door!).

No, I don't know the owners. Like I said, this past weekend was the first time I had gone into the place in months despite living right beside it. I have actually been a lurker on Bar Towel for a long time, but have just gotten around to creating an account. I've read this forum for ages to keep up with the new beers at C'est What and other places, and just wanted to mention that what had been just another neighbourhood pub up to this point is getting into more beers that the people on this forum enjoy. I thought the name of this forum was "Good Pub Reviews".
Get a life man, you don't have better things to do than blindly accuse people of being shills for local pubs?

Aww man... sorry to be such a dick. No offense intended, seriously!
As you know there sometimes appear new 'members' right out of the blue telling us how great this or that product is... I never assumed that was you of course because you don't SOUND like a bad late-night TV commercial. Don't be put off by my silly off-base remark.
Anyway I'll be hitting Betty's soon, cask ale & the patio... good stuff amigo.

Ah, Betty's. I love the place, cool neighbourhood bar with good beers on tap, great food, prices, atmosphere, the hole nine.
However, I also noticed the casked Welly last time I was there, but I had to return it...seemed like mostly water to me. The barkeep seemed a little embarrassed but exchanged it with no questions asked. I'm willing to give it another try sometime, maybe they've fixed it since then.
Welcome to the 'Towel, crawler.

Betty's is sorta cool but also a little scruffy around the edges, for the benefit of anybody planning to entertain fine company (in which case better stick to BeerBistro, Volo, Smokeless, even Petit Déjeuner across the street) Worth going for a pint though.
Betty's is near to where I work & has become the meeting place of local film industry types. Very successful bar & a real landmark.

Agreed - for business entertainment or more important guests, Beer Bistro or Volo is probably better, C'est What if you want something more informal. Betty's is more of a corner bar kinda place with their regulars, but as shintriad said, from the two times I've eaten there, the food was pretty good also.
I have fond memories of Betty's as I spent my university years working summers at the Toronto Sun building which is right across the street. Back then there wasn't as much in the area as there is now, and Betty's was a great place to go after work. Great patio out back too. Glad to hear they're keeping up with good beer.
P.S. welcome to the site crawler!

To say nothing of the scrags from the Sun once they have met their deadlines.Belgian wrote:Betty's is near to where I work & has become the meeting place of local film industry types.
A fun place and reasonably good pub food, but desparately in need of a better beer selection. Or at least an occasional cleaning of the draft pipes.
