Stonehammer Maple Red Ale

Post by Matt Arnold »

To anyone fortunate enough to try some, Stonehammer has released a new Maple Red Ale using local maple syrup. This American Style Red features challenger hops and is wet hopped using twenty litres of medium-grade maple syrup. Weighing in at around 5%, it results in a hoppy well-balanced ale super drinkable ale.

Head down to the Winking Judge for tasty pint and look for it on tap at more locations in the next two weeks.

I tried this at C'est What on Friday, and I really liked it. It actually reminded me a fair bit of George’s Double Red from Cask Days - similar recipe?

Greg,

George appreciates the compliment. Same sort of crystal malts, with different ratios. He used some traditional hops in the Maple Red, like fuggles, goldings, and magnum plus the super cascade centennial from the US.

After a bit of leverage I managed to get a cask out of Matt! I tapped it tonight and sold a gallon in the first 15 minutes. Great job George, another winner.

I drank a good portion of that gallon and was thrilled to have the opportunity! Excellent beer, worth a trip to grab a pint or three.

Looks like I'll have to make the trip out today at some point.

No worries for those who haven't had it yet. Just a simple to Ilderton will allow you to sample this fine ale. But make it quick!

Had this at the King Eddy today!
An excellent choice to have on cask. Get out to your local who carries this, and give it a whirl!
