Well here's a new one for me.
Made a pumpkin wheat all grain on Saturday. Hit about 1042 for OG, not great but not bad. Pitched re-used yeast from a previous Wheat batch I made and was very pleased with.
No bubbles in the airlock till Sunday evening, more bubbles Monday but nothing crazy.
Tuesday at lunch my wife comes home to a house reeking of fermenting beer.
When she checked the cellar closet I ferment in, the entire top portion of the carboy had blown off and slid off. It was a very clean break but has anyone ever had this much of a kick while fermenting?
I've heard lots of stories of beer bottles exploding but never a carboy.
But boy does it smell great in my basement (depending on who you ask)

Carboy goes BOOOM
I once had a carboy so shaking during a very active fermentation that it was knocking on its neighbour. I got lucky, it held until cleaning, where the kind of cut you described happened.
Fermentation is a powerful thing. I learned never to put a carboy directly on ciment or too close to something to let it share rattle and roll all it wants.
While on the subject, when rinsing with warm water, never rinse with cold right after, the quick change in temp will break it.
