Personally, I find myself drifting towards Gangsta Rap stuff like N.W.A. or Tupac. Though I also like some Lonely Island stuff for the lolz.
Then there's also Gordon Lightfoot.....

I've listened to that kind of music and don't like it. It gives me a headache and is IMHO really unpleasant to listen to. I also think it's not terribly creative.

In many cases, no, it's not very creative, but creativity isn't always the goal. Listening to music that is passionate and forceful can be just as satisfying.
Also, there are many well-established creative metal bands, so it's hard to make that generalization. Dillinger Escape Plan, Fantomas, Mastodon, Martyr, Death, Ghenghis Tron, Intronaut, Boris, etc.
This weekend it was a mix of NoFX, Faith No More, Steve Earle, early Anthrax, early Beastie Boys and House of Pain. Really I'll listen to anything save for techno-dance music.
Dan - I had a roommate back in univ who was into all those bands. He got me a 1 night gig roadie-ing for Morbid Angel. My payoff was 25 bucks, 8 packs of guitar strings and a 420-inspired discussion with Pete Sandoval on proper ettiquite for screwing Shania Twain.

And that story is awesome. Pete Sandoval is ridiculous. Terrorizer's World Downfall is one of my favourite albums of all time. Love Morbid Angel too, but that one Terrorizer album really stands out to me. Must be the grindcore fan in me.

I usually want to hear Iron Maiden's version of the Mountain classic 'Rainbow's Gold.' Then it doesn't matter if it's Slayer or some gay poser Metallica copy band.
