# of Breweries - stats?!

I search online and couldn't find the answer to these questions. It's probably a combination of not looking in the right spot and laziness.

But it's a question I get asked a lot.

Just wondering if anyone has the answers:
1. How many craft breweries are there in Ontario?
2. How many in Canada?
3. How many in the States? - I've heard approximately 1,500 but not sure how reliable the source was....

The best resource when it comes to things like this is the Brewer's Association. Their website has all kinds of useful information (stats, marketing tools, access to lobbyists, etc) but unfortunately it only covers American microbreweries.

BeerAdvocate also has lists of these things here: http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/directory/9

Though it often includes bars that brew a few beers, and not just breweries.

wouldn't OCB members be a good start for Ontario at least? Then it wouldn't be too tough to figure out the few who are not in the OCB .... But it's always a moving target for sure. There are 3-4 new breweries coming online in Toronto alone this fall.
