Pump House Grille
There is a new pub/restaurant that has just opened in Port Credit. Know you may be wondering why I didn't post this to the Good Pub Review folder, we'll the reason is it's not a good pub. The draught beer range is exclusively Interbrew. I am getting god damn fed up of seeing pubs like this espicialy in my neighbourhood. By the way the cost for these beers range from $6.10-$6.50 a pint! What bull! Thanks for reading my rant and at least I have a couple of Hook Norton Haymaker's in my fridge
Cheers!
Cheers!
I sympathize with the lack of decent places in the Port Credit area Publican. I knew that the beer selection at the Pump House Grille would be fairly run of the mill interbrew, as its owned by the same guy who runs the Clarkson Pump and Patio just down the road. Didn't think he'd be venturing into anything exciting. I think he just wanted to open a place in Port Credit, so those East of Lorne Park wouldn't have to dare cross into "Clarkson" anymore. I still haven't managed to win the lottery so as to open a decent pub in the area...will let you know as soon as I do.

Maybe I'll have to start buying lotery tickets again. I know of two other people in the Port Credit/Clarkson area that like micro
beer. If that's all there is and a mircle happens and a good pub opens we might have to go every night of the week to keep this pub open.

I would like to reply to what started as a discussion about the lack of beer in Port Credit. As a server at the Pump House Grille Co. I would like to point out that our intention was not to open as a "pub"; we have not identified ourselves or advertised ourselves to be a pub so please take note of this before passing judgement on our pub-style atmosphere or pub-style beer selection. We are a bistro-style restaurant offering quality food that caters to a wide range of culinary tastes and offering a wide range of import beers and fine wines. Our draft beer prices range from $4.49 to $6.03, well below the $6.10 price posted during your discussions.
And yes, we are proudly associated with the Clarkson Pump and Patio and although this connection may not be "exciting" to the Port Credit publicans, we only hope to gain the same long running success as the the Clarkson Pump and Patio in our venture "across the river." I wish you all good luck in winning the lottery and opening the perfect pub in Port Credit of which you speak as any new establishments in the village will bring more people to our area! Just be sure to be prepared to take the criticisms and quick judgements passed by people like you who don't really take the time to notice anything positive.

I'm sorry!!!! But with all due respect... What the hell is that supposed to mean???
Perhaps you haven't grasped what this site is all about. It is not exactly a good "pub" site. We exchange information about good beer wich is rather a rarity in Ontario. Your run of the mill Belgian Selection is a good thing to have and to be honest, it is still good news, in the way that you are not serving molbatt products, but it is not ground breaking anyway you look at it. If you are interested in sprucing up your beer selection, please let us know: we would love to give you some suggestions.

A good bistro should have a selection of beers that reflects it's level of refinement.

As a new restaurant, we appreciate any suggestions, comments; we'd love to hear your suggestions on sprucing up our beer selection.
We opened the restaurant with a 77 item menu including everything from wings to ribs, steak, salmon dishes, pastas and stir frys; our feature dishes have included blackened jumbo shrimp, grilled pork tenderloins, pepper crusted veal chops, scampi shrimp. Now that a few months have passed, we are changing the menu...adding a few items that got a great response when we offered them as specials and taking off a few of the not so popular items.

I think Denisson's Weiss is a good place to start. It is a Bavarian Wheat Beer, authentic as it gets and is brewed locally, so it is always fresh. It is rated #1 or #2 in the world in it's catagory depending on which beer rating site you visit and is the surviving beer from the famous and sorely missed Denison's Brewery (also known as Growler's Pub-there was a restauraunt as well but the name escapes me). This beer is served in a classy tall Weissbier Glass and has a visually impressive presentation.
A few microbrewery offering round things nicely: There are a few very good breweries in your backyard. Black Oak Pale is very good, but there are plenty more and other bartowelers will likely chime in and suggest some of their favorites.
Also, for an upscale bistro, some upscale bottled belgians are practically a must. There are two consignment agents on this site all the time who would be more than happy to help you with these. They are likely also good sources of information as to what moves rather quickly since they also supply all of the specialty beer haunts in the area. They carry several beers that are not available through regular purchases at the LCBO.

I still haven't been in to check it out but have heard from a couple people that the food is pretty decent.
Pump House Grille Co. indicates that he is open to suggestions which is nice, and we should not be too quick to criticize. Port Credit is sort of a chicken and egg problem. Is there a lack of great beer because noone buys it or does no one buy it because it isn't there.
Crooked Cue carries Leffe Brune, Creemore and some others last time I was in, but I have no idea whether or not they sell well compared to Keith's etc.

The Pump House Grille and the Pump and Patio both carry our Muskoka Cream Ale and Muskoka Honey Brown in bottles. I hope some of you go in and support the only mirco beer in there.
Mississauge, Oakville and the suburbs in general are a very tough market to get into. They are starting to come around but for now (in terms of beer) if you hunt a bit and look around you can find places.
Other places in the Clarkson/ Prot credit area that carry Muskoka are
Draft
Cudas, Baracudas, Zaxs and Portico
Bottles
Pump and Patio and Pump house grille

Thanks Muskoka for putting your beer in the Pump House Grille I'll have to return soon and have a few bottles. Beer geek, why put in Old Credit which I agree is a generic beer they already have Stella and Old Credit would take up tap space that would be better reserved for beer with flavour. I suggest eithier Black Oak Pale Ale or Scotch Irish Session.
