Brew Kettle for Induction Brewing

Post by ercousin »

So after my first 1 gallon batch I've decided I want to start doing 5 gallon batches.

In order to do this I need a bigger pot/kettle, and would rather make it future proof for AG (planning to do a few extract batches first).

I've decided that I don't want to risk putting 80 lbs or so on my glass top stove, since they are only rated for 50 lbs.

I read this Northern Brewer article which says that induction brewing is viable, using an 1800 W induction cooktop:

http://www.northernbrewer.com/connect/2 ... n-brewing/

My dilemma is that I can't find a reasonably priced kettle in Ontario that is induction ready.

I was planning on the OBK one: http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/Nine_Gal ... -2weld.htm

But they say it is not induction compatible.

Unfortunately Northern Brewer doesn't seem to ship to Canada.

Does anyone know any kettles in the 9 to 10.5 gallon range that are induction ready for purchase in Ontario?

So far this is the only one I've been able to find:

http://homebrewsupplies.ca/product/2167 ... ed-bottom/

The Polarware BrewRite and Try-ply kettles are induction ready.

I'm wondering if the Bayou Classic kettles are induction ready.

There is this one with 3 layer bottom, not sure if 3 layer means the right stainless steel was used: http://ihomebrewing.ca/16-gal-bayou-cla ... g-ihb.html

Where do they say it's not induction compatible? Do you know why it wouldn't work?

Just asking because I have this pot and I want to know the limitations!

I emailed him and asked:

"Hi Eric none of our pots are listed on the site as induction ready.

Finally some closure on this!

"Hey Eric, thanks for contacting us. Yes, all of our SS pots are induction ready. The Try-ly bottom is not totally necessary but is nice and does help depending on the the load going into your stock pot.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Here is a 5%OFF coupon when you decide to order - <redacted>

Have a great rest of the week!

Cheers!

If your going this route make sure you have a 20amp outlet and that nothing else is running on the line when your burner is on. Max wattage on a 20amp outlet is 1920w and a standard 15amp outlet is 1440w.
