Brew Dogs TV show

Post by Torontoblue »

Brew Dogs is coming to Canadian TV :D

If you receive DTOUR, then:

Brew Dogs (Canadian Broadcast Premiere)
Thursdays at 9pm ET/10pm PT beginning November 7

I've caught the first 2 episodes (San Diego & San Francisco), and it's not a bad way to waste an hour. The Brew Dog guys aren't as annoying as they usually appear to be; well Martin isn't anyway!

The beer brewed on the show are typical Brewdog thinking.

I'll still stick to viewing them elsewhere as I detest adbreaks, even on a PVR!

DTOUR? Hmmm.... haven't heard of it. Anyone know if this channel is buried somewhere in the Rogers channels in Ontario?

It was named TVTropolis until SHAW recently re-launched it as DTOUR. It's now basically a food & travel show.

Watched the first episode last night. It's funny to see the cookie cutter food show template dropped on top of craft beer, but hey, the did it with doughnuts, right?

There's no competition per se, but much like a lot of these foodie shows there is some sort of challenge set before the participants. Here they set out to brew a beer with exotic ingredients in an odd location (in the first episode it was hot peppers and sea kelp for the ingredients, a moving train for the brew).

Lots of quick cuts, cutesy graphics and polished production values. They spend a lot of time talking about the exotic ingredients and the acquisition of said ingredients. The peppers and kelp are mentioned repeatedly, but they do not tell you which hops or grains are used in the recipe. Efforts are made to highlight the Brew Dog guys as personalities (and who's to say they aren't). Not all that far from the Brew Masters series with Sam Caligione.

I get it though. If they made it too beer nerdy the average Joe would tune out. Nice to see places like Stone Bistro and there's plenty for trainspotting beer geeks to enjoy. I'll end up watching the whole run of these.
