The outrage!

I can agree with both sides of this story.

It's this particular quote that I really like, though.

"They said they chose the name La Tite Pute because that beer didn't take as much time to make and it has a more commercial taste."
Brands are for cattle.
Fans are cash cows.
The herd will consume until consumed.

Tacky labeling. Regardless of how I feel about the whole thing (which is indifferent), I likely wouldn't buy it for that reason alone.

Can we start using Stephen Beaumont's 'intentionality' definition of craft beer now and to rule these folks out? Doesn't sound very much worth trying.

Their beers are not getting the best of reviews, genderist art or not. That being said, while Ontario has a taste for the juvenile in beer names (Cockpuncher, Long Dark Voyage to Uranus, Fangboner), Quebec seems to tend towards the genderist a lot more heavily (lots more busty ladies adorning labels, more scantly clad succubi - just drop into a Montreal bottle shop and look around).

However, I believe Ice Hole is the perfect blend of Quebec's sexist naming and art and Ontario's juvenility:

Edit: just to clarify (after re-reading and thinking), I am in no way equating some good natured juvenile naming with chauvinistic remarks/names/etc. I don't think juvenile names can really hurt much except the occasional bruised cock...

To be fair, I don't think Ice Hole was ever actually sold at retail, was it? That label is beyond an inside joke.

No idea! I've just seen pics of it around the interwebs and that it's listed as a GLB beer. If it wasn't sold at retail (or should not be considered a GLB beer), then perhaps it ought to be not associated with the official brand?

Ice Hole - is not sold in bottles at the retail level.

As for Fangboner, the name actually comes from a road in Ohio: http://bit.ly/1ilmQh2

Well as a homebrewer with flavours like: Master Bitter, A Roll in the Hay, Cold Sweat, Wit Dream, Salivator Dopplebock and so on (all inspired by the Simpsons' Erotic Bakery, or brewery in my case), I'm all for a good double entendre, or double IPA.

Still I do TRY to rise above fratboy and TRY to make a good beer...

I'd also love one that I could bring back home for our old cabin party in Spread Eagle. Where is Spread Eagle? Just north of South Dildo, of course.

Hah. Doesn't Quebec have very real (and more pressing) problems with racism, language and culture discrimination and, in a word xenophobia? Why is very open and smug intolerance just fine over there but a silly beer name is not?

And the so-called 'nude woman' looks like a flighted bird-size creature, far less a parrot than a faery which I think are often depicted unclothed and are always, to my belief, imaginary. Not a real picture of a woman.

Not defending the crudeness, but aren't people allowed to show bad taste in our country? I hardly see how cheesy novelty and gag shops could exist if we censored every marginal product - maybe it's healthier if we don't take the joke too much to heart, and let some people be juvenile when they want to be. Because we won't stop them really.

I've always appreciated the humor in Toronto's beer scene. Sometimes beer is just too serious.

I loved Premature e-jack-o'lantern.

There's humour in the Toronto beer scene? Must be too dry for me to get...
