Jackson Hole, WY
Jackson Hole, WY
Heading for another ski trip next week to a new destination, Jackson Hole, WY. Any recommendations?
Hello from the slopes of Wyoming! Since I'm here right now I can answer my own question
The Jackson Hole ski area (and town of Jackson itself) is a fun spot, generally at par with many of the other popular ski destinations in North America. There's certainly a Western theme that is found here and there, but not too heavy.
There's a decent amount of local beer to be found in Jackson, as many establishments like to support their own as is common in the U.S.
Snake River is a local brewpub that's been around since the '90s, which has a large and lively pub right in Jackson, and their beers are found in cans and draught in many other places in the area.
Bin 22 is a hybrid liquor store, bar and restaurant - a very unique experience as there is literally nothing like it in Ontario as it is totally against our liquor laws. So you can browse the aisles of beer, wine & booze while having a drink and waiting for your food to be prepared. They also had on tap beers from Roadhouse, another craft brewery closer to the ski resort and a short drive out of town.
There's another brewery in town, a brewpub built into a Thai restaurant, another really unique experience. The restaurant is called Thai One On, and within it is the Melvin Brewery, which makes some pretty fine beers. The restaurant also has the best selection of non-local craft beer in town.
Also in Jackson is the totally unique Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, which is exactly what the name would imply - an over the top western theme bar. But they do have locals Snake River and Grand Teton (from Idaho) available.
On the mountain itself, the Handle Bar at the base of the gondola has a number of beers on tap, again Snake and Grand Teton, amongst some others.
Anyway, Jackson Hole is a fun destination for ski tourists (like myself). The mountain lives up to its reputation of having very challenging terrain, but luckily all the beer can help ease the leg pain!

I stumbled across a place kind of like that called Top Hops in NYC on the Lower East Side right across from the Tenement Museum. Bottle fridges in the back for take out or drink in, a bar with taps for the same and food though not as extensive as a restaurant. I went there while the out-laws were wasting time in the Tenement gift shop. I told the owners that their place didn't and couldn't exist in Ontario!Cass wrote:Bin 22 is a hybrid liquor store, bar and restaurant - a very unique experience as there is literally nothing like it in Ontario as it is totally against our liquor laws. If I could open a place like that I think I'd quit my IT job. (Well, I'm thinking of doing the latter right now...)

Closest I think we ever had was Rack n Tap in Brampton, with it's walk thru fridge section where you could browse beers and grab the one you want, paying for it (and having it opened) as you exited the refrigerated section. Think they had about 100 bottles and 10 taps.lister wrote:I stumbled across a place kind of like that called Top Hops in NYC on the Lower East Side right across from the Tenement Museum. It was probably a decade ahead of it's time, but a great place to shoot some pool and try different beers even if they were mostly LCBO listings. Was the first place I had St. Peter's Winter Ale
