FT: 90 min Dog Fish head, Bell's expedition, etc

Post by beerguykw »

Hey guys

First time poster here, but I've been following the forums for over a year. I am ISO - KBS, or BCBS. Potentially some Motley cru as well.

I have 3 90 min dog fish heads up for grabs
2 Bell's expedition stout
A few Lambda's from Bellwoods
I still have some Founders Breakfast stout and some Backwoods bastard left, as well as the Imperial stout.

Let me know if you're interested. :D

Welcome to the board! I think you may be quite a ways off in your trade request. Not trying to troll on your thread, just offering some advice since this is your first post here. Good luck though!

Thanks for the welcome. I am really just trying to get a feel for the trading thing as I haven't done it before.

However, the Bell's Expedition is rated right along with the KBS: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/top-50/

Trading often has more to do with scarcity of the beer than ratings. Both KBS and BCS are difficult to come by, very difficult actually. Whereas I could go to Michigan today and find both of your beers on the shelf. So, while I won't argue that Expedition is a fantastic beer (because it is), you'd be hard pressed to find anyone willing to part with KBS or BCS to get. I, for example, would love some Expedition and I have both KBS and BCS that I could trade, but I wouldn't even consider it.

Beer trading can be very difficult, especially since it is very hard to keep up with all of the different beers out there and when/where they are released and in what quantity.

Now, having said all that, the trading scene in Ontario is often very different because any American beer is generally difficult to come by (save for a road trip to NY, MI, etc.) so you'll often find that people on BT are more willing to make trades of American for American beer even if one beer is a little more hard to come by than the other. However, in your case, you are essentially offering year-round shelf beer (or half year-round in the case of Expedition) for limited release stuff that sells out in a matter of hours in most places it is distributed to. So there is a fairly big gap there.

Don't get discouraged because you really do never know. A couple of years ago I was looking to trade some Founders Dirty Bastard (was open to pretty much anything) and a generous bar toweler offered up a bottle of KBS in exchange. I think I ended up throwing in something else too (a bottle of Ithaca Cold) front because I kind of felt like I was getting a way better end fo the deal. But like it just goes to show that you never know.

4 Trading tips I can give:

Usually rare or high demand beers will require the same coming back from you. (for example Bells Black note would probably get you closer to a KBS than an Expidition would).

Regional beers may get you some good return also. I have a few friends who expanded their cellars thanks to being able trade beers that are available widespread locally but not really in any other regions (ie New Glarus). They wouldnt think of offering the same to their local trading partners though.

Shelf beers will likely get you shelf beers.

White Birch will get you an angry visit from Ian on a Wednesday evening and a black eye :x

Having said that welcome to the board!

Yup. Harry who use to be on here 'traded' me an Alesmith Wee Heavy just for bringing him a sixer of 10BY from Black Oak, and offered sharing a Speedway because I'd never tried it. That's beyond generous. Sometimes people here trade good stuff just because they can, for the beer karma.
