Railway City Dead Elephant Ale

Railway City Brewing in St. Thomas have just released their first seasonal beer, Dead Elephant Ale.

Named in honour of Jumbo, the world famous elephant that was killed on September 15, 1885 by a freight train, the beer is described by the brewery as follows:

A full bodied golden Pale Ale which presents with a linen white medium density head. On the palate there are slight grassy notes which fall away to reveal a hint of biscuit with rather pleasant grapefruit and perfume undertones. To the nose there is a mild malt aroma which accentuates the robust floral bouquet which is derived from the hops. IBUs 46.6 ABV 7.1%

Dead Elephant Ale is available in 1.9 litre growlers at the brewery, and will also be available on tap at Bar Volo and C’est What in Toronto, and the Winking Judge in Hamilton.

C'est What 21st Annual Fall Festival Of Craft Breweries

C'est What (67 Front Street East) will be holding their 21st Annual Fall Festival Of Craft Breweries on Friday, October 2nd from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

While the line-up is far from complete, there are going to be two notable entries: C'est What Big Butt, the newest seasonal ale made with smoked malt and a touch of fennel seed; and a cask of authentic early-nineteenth century beer from Black Creek Brewery.

The Black Creek offering will be, in the words of their owner, "..a warm, flat, dark lumpy beer... People would have to be forewarned that it was brewed without any electricity and over an open flame so it will not be their normal beer."

There will be several dozen beers available in all, and as always, there is no admission charge and most samples will cost a loonie. We'll pass along further details as they become available.
