New Toronto beer bars on the horizon

Things are heating up on the Toronto beer bar scene this fall.

The beerbistro, a beer cuisine restaurant concept that originally attempted to get off the ground in 2002, is back and officially on. It is being led by chef Brian Morin, formerly of the Esplanade Bier Markt, and Stephen Beaumont, well-known Canadian beer writer. To be located at the old Zoom restaurant at 18 King Street East, the beerbistro will feature 18-20 taps and 80-100 bottles. Their anticipated opening is mid-November. Stay tuned to the Bar Towel for more information as it develops. According to Stephen Beaumont, the beerbistro's aim is to "help further develop the beer scene in the city, in harmony with other great purveyors of good beer."

Also opening shortly is The Blue Meaney, a new pub owned by Keiron Meaney, ex of the Bow and Arrow. Named a "Microbrew Freehouse", the Meaney will feature about 15 Canadian microbrewed taps. The Blue Meaney should be opening by November 20th at 2140 Yonge St. Again, we'll have more information as it becomes available.

Definitely a great time to for the Toronto beer scene, with two new establishments opening up. Should be a fine fall and winter for beer fans in the city.
