Bar & Pub News Bites

Here are a few assorted bar & pub news items that have come our way recently:

  • A couple of hours west of Toronto in the small town of Elora, The Shepherd's Pub has recently been taken over by new publicans Jad Crawford and Grant Farrell who are devoting their tap line-up almost exclusively to Ontario microbrews. Available now are brews from F&M, Neustadt, Wellington & Brick, as well as Fullers London Porter and a couple of other imports.

  • The Duke of Kent, one of the oldest supporters of cask ale in Toronto, has sadly stopped offering their old stand-by, Wellington Arkell, on handpump. According to bar staff, the casks weren't selling quick enough, leading to a lot of spoilage. There is no word on if or when the handpump will be reactivated, so for now, the closest thing they have to cask ale is Fuller's London Pride being served from a keg without additional carbonation.

  • The infamous strong ale Delirium Tremens has recently been spotted on tap at King East bistro Le Petit Dejeuner, where it can be enjoyed at a very reasonable $5.50/330ml. While they are best known for their popular Sunday brunch, the restaurant serves up authentic Belgian & French cuisine for lunch and dinner as well.
