July 01, 2007OCB Brewer for a Day Contest
Love Beer? Be an OCB Brewer for a Day Brewing beer is an art form mastered by a small number of Ontarians. For the first time ever, people will get the chance to see inside breweries not as tourists, but as brewmasters in the making. The “Be an OCB Brewer for a Day” contest gives entrants the chance to meet brewmasters from breweries across the province and share recipes, knowledge and sit down together to enjoy lunch and a beer to boot. The contest features exciting prize packages valued between $2,500-$5,000, each one offering beer lovers a unique opportunity to shadow one of Ontario's finest craft brewmasters and learn about the art of brewing first-hand. The OCB brewmasters will teach them the craft of beer making, the experience of a lifetime. “The OCB is excited about this promotion because it gives beer lovers a chance to learn about beer from people who care about the craft of making it,” said Karen Behune Plunkett, President, Walkerville Brewing Company and member of the OCB. “The OCB Brewer for a Day promotion is also a chance to work with the LCBO to promote OCB beer in-store and reach a diversified clientele.” The contest has already begun and is open until September 3, 2007. Ontarians over the age of 19 can participate online now or by picking up a ballot card at a participating OCB brewery. The in-store component of the contest begins at participating locations of the LCBO after July 22, 2007 and runs to August 19, 2007. Enter the PIN number from the back of the card at www.ontariocraftbrewers.ca where there are 21 chances to win. No purchase is necessary and there is a chance for 21 winners and their friends to learn from a brewmaster. “LCBO employees are proud to work with the Ontario Craft Brewers to help our customers discover and better appreciate the quality and value of these superb locally-produced beers,” said LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter. “The ‘Be an OCB Brewer for a Day’ in-store promotion complements our year-round in-store educational and promotional activities which have helped Ontario craft beers increase in sales by 27.6 per cent at the LCBO in 2006-07.” In 118 LCBO stores, designated staff known as Beer Guys and Beer Gals are trained to help customers with product information, tasting notes and recommended food matches for Ontario craft beers. Select stores also feature prominent OCB signage and display units. Breweries from across the province have joined together to create this one of a kind opportunity for Ontario Beer Drinkers to enter for a chance to ‘go behind the curtain’ of a brewery. Entrants from all over Ontario are welcome to participate because the OCB has breweries pretty much everywhere - from Carleton Place to Windsor and St. Catharines to Bracebridge. There are 21 breweries from the OCB participating which include: Nickel Brook Beers, Heritage Brewing, Hockley Valley Brewing Company, Neustadt Springs Brewery, Old Credit Brewing company, Cool Beer Brewing Company, Mill Street Brewery, Cameron’s Brewing Company, Granite Brewery, Walkerville Brewing Company, Niagara’s Best Beer, The Robert Simpson Brewing Company, Trafalgar Brewing Company, Wellington Brewery, TAPS Brewing Company, King Brewery, Great Lakes Brewery, Brick Brewing Company, Beau’s All Natural Brewing, Black Oak Brewing Company and Barley Days.
