For all my gripes about the LCBO sometimes, just sometimes, their buying power gives us some great deals. Even the prices we get on Belgian Trappists and a lot of imported specialty beers on a regular basis are as good as anywhere else.beerstodiscover wrote:This price is bizarre. Sam Adams states the MSRP is US$200 (C$260) and LCBO sells it for C$110. Perhaps LCBO gets a better price by buying 588 bottles, but I suspect anyone selling it for the US$200 is making a very healthy margin if the LCBO can profit at less than half price.
I managed to get a couple thinking maybe can sell one for a profit any thoughts

not a practice condoned in these parts.bwatson wrote:I managed to get a couple thinking maybe can sell one for a profit any thoughts
I had an oz at that Burger bar formerly in Kensington Mkt. I tend to agree, the hype is (for me) exponentially beyond the quality of the experience, but that's exactly the thing - there are always diminishing returns on extra-premium products. You just have to appreciate the small positive differences that much.Craig wrote:I argue no, but they sell out every year so I'm sure lots of people argue yes. Instead of buying a bottle, I went over to Folly and ordered an ounce for I can't remember how much they wanted, but it was less than $20 bucks. That ounce was pretty much all I'd ever want. It's fine, just not really my thing.Esquandolas wrote:$111 sure is a lot for 710 ml of delicious beer. Worth it?
Let's qualify the 'pluses.' SA Utopias gives you something that is novel, that is rare/exclusive/low-production volume, that has a rad collectible container and also has high production costs associated with years of blending and ageing each edition (they blend each one from all past years I think.) You also get to be part of a cultural thing just like Dark Lord day or lining up at HF to get your favorite ales - that's just a lot of fun for some people.
So in perspective, this $111 beer is probably intrinsically a better value-per-dollar (and less company profit margin) than any $60 Bordeaux or $200 Scotch or something. And IF you really liked it, worth every cent - otherwise it may be a one-and-done. Why buy a lot of something you're not crazy about just because it's high-demand, that's pretentious (albeit not unheard of.)

Anyone grab any of those De Dolle Oerbier's that popped up online a few days ago? Brought in by Gleemer Imports, and disappeared pretty quickly. I got a few of the normal ones (i.e. not the Reserva). Looking forward to trying these babies out! Anyone had 'em before?

Mind if I ask when you ordered yours?Esquandolas wrote:Anyone grab any of those De Dolle Oerbier's that popped up online a few days ago? Brought in by Gleemer Imports, and disappeared pretty quickly. I ordered both the Oerbier only a couple hours after Gleemer tweeted about them. But when my order shipped neither Oerbier was included. The website stock showed dozens of bottles of each still at the time....so kind of bummed the LCBO might not have processed orders in "order" so to say.

Fri Nov 9th, in the morning I think. I got an email that afternoon saying that the order has shipped. Haven't received the shipment yet.El Pinguino wrote:Mind if I ask when you ordered yours?Esquandolas wrote:Anyone grab any of those De Dolle Oerbier's that popped up online a few days ago? Ditto for me, I ordered, received order confirmation but on my shipping notice I see that I was short shipped, the De Dolle beers were not included.Esquandolas wrote:Fri Nov 9th, in the morning I think. You'd think they would pack and ship orders sequentially...but I imagine there is some weird logic at the LCBO like orders shipped to homes first vs orders shipped to stores....one can only imagine.
I will go pick up my other beers now...and look for one of those new Unibroue 6-packs at the Beer Store instead.

anyone else having issues with signing into LCBO?
all of a sudden the site will not recognize my email/password, if I trey to reset my password, via the "forgot password" button, it says my email does not exist in the system, so it can't reset a password.
If I try to re-register, it says I can't as my email addy is already registered????
I had to check out as a guest.
emailed LCBO for help - but no help as of yet, very odd...

CASCADE SANG ROYAL '16 - https://www.keep6imports.com/shop/sangroyal
Keep 6 site says the price is $27.25 but lcbo.com is showing $35.60! That seems way more expensive than prior cascade bottles, no?

Looks like it, I checked my receipts, paid the $27.25 back in March.distr0 wrote:CASCADE SANG ROYAL '16 - https://www.keep6imports.com/shop/sangroyal

Also there are some nice Evil Twin beers (Bible Belt and Imperial Doughnut Break) which I used to round out my Oude Pijpen (now sold out) order yesterday.
Some of these products are showing 1 unit in stock at random stores, so they don't show up when you search for "Online Exclusives".. which is annoying.
