Just took a quick look at the Heritage Brewing co. website (heritagebrewing.com), and they seem to have just released their 2 beers (a pilsner and a brown lager)in stubbies , on the Ottawa market...didnt see those yet...Perry, are you going to use this bottling format too...?

Luc, I am going to bottle, but I plan to use the "industry standard bottle" because I want to use the Beer Store as well as the LCBO. My botles should be out by January.

I know the stubbies aren't the standard now, but does anybody want to bet that they will be in two or three years.

Hmmmm. While I wouldn't be surprised to see more "classic" brands (like 50 and Ex) appearing in stubbies sometime soonish, I can't envision the stubby becoming the standard again. It just feels like too much a novelty/nostalgia thing to become really widespread.

Then again, I'm sure that people didn't expect the stubby to disappear the way that it did, so maybe I'll be proven wrong and it'll come back in full force.

The Big Boys have to do something to swap those pesky "mosquitos." What better way than to make them spend money retooling their bottling lines.

The stubby bottle was and is an excellent package. It is the strongest and most recyclable (in its non twist-top form) container the Canadian industry ever used. Having said that, I seriously doubt that the Big Boys even notice what goes on at my level. Heritage's idea is fine. They are going into the LCBO system only. But people are going to try to bring back the empties to The Beer Store for refund. Since Heritage and Brick's bottles are different, they won't refund their deposit. This will piss off the Beer Store people BIG TIME.
