I think you're being harsh, Peter.

I'm inclined to believe the clerk. The break was a perfectly clean bevel between the separately manufactured stem and bowl. This was not the sort of chip or shattered bowl that I think you were trying to describe (BTW, we all know that "You cannot produce an affordable package that contains heavy beer bottles and delicate glasses without the risk of some damage"). It had all the hallmarks of an imperfect join between the two parts.

I'm not sure why you think this was the first one he'd encountered and that he was jumping to conclusions. He gave every impression that he had seen this before.

Look, I'm not saying there's a consistent flaw in all the glasses, I'm just saying that I've seen this before - the first Christoffel that I bought last year had exactly the same perfectly clean split; I noticed that this year's Christoffel stem is slightly different. I hope that's an improvement in the structural quality of the glass.

Matt,
Thanks for pointing this out. I brought home an Orval Giftpack on the weekend, since it wasn't my first Orval Glass I tucked the package away in the basement. I just went down to check it, fortunately it's fine. Nice of the clerk to check for You though.

Cheers, doug
