I've never cared before about a restaurant or bar closing before. But I'll miss Growler's terribly. Among my friends, it was our "Cheers". And I'm hardly a beer connaisseur, but I know that the Wheat was something extraordinary.

It was quite a shock to hear that Denison's was no more. I had been going there for years, always enjoying the company of the staff, the great atmosphere, and of course, the out-of-this-world beer (can there be a better wheat brewed for miles around??). It was an institution for me and my mates, and it's a shame that it's doors are no longer open to us.
A pint and a moment of silence please!

Michael,

Very sorry to hear about your troubles. You are a great brewer, and you ran a wonderfully hospitable pub. My compliments and condolences also to your staff.

...Perhaps if I had only bought more beer and eaten more mussels...!

Your landlord is a total prick! The situation you had to endure sounds harsh and untenable.

I wish you every success as you move on to something much better.

Best Regards,

Brian, Your Neighbour on Victoria St.

Maybe this has already been said and I've missed it...but I would not be surprised to see a condo go up in that spot...it's all about the money after all...force the renters out to make more money for the man!!!

SirIsm,

I wonder how much longer before my view of Growler's and the back of 80 Adelaide St. E.(as picturesque as that is!) turns into a view of some other schmuck in another condo directly across the Richmond St. And I will still be thirsty and disconsolate at having lost my neighbours at Growlers.

Thank you, everyone, for your wonderfully supportive comments. They make a bitter pill easier to swallow.

Hello Michael,

Gord and Kurtis pass on regrets. Nobody likes to see beer wasted or a beer maker indisposed. All bt sentiments ring true. Get back in the vat soon.

Condolences to Michael and everyone who used to work at Denison's. Making a great brew pub survive shouldn't be so difficult. I will deeply miss the great beer and atmosphere.

* 2011 now * (memory lane thread here folks)

A bit of parallel to the recent Duggan's closing. Note that Denisons was there for about 14 years (!) A major distinction that Denisons became an institution written about in books like "World of Beer"... even establishing the most sought-after Weissbier in the world. And, for all that excellence the partners made not one cent of profit on their investment, owing to expensive rent.

The food was great I remember. It could have been different!

That was a really interesting read. Where was the old Denison's Brewpub?

Yep. And there are threads from later that year about beerbistro opening on King St East, including geting Michael Hancock's Weissbier on draught (originaly the only format, and wasn't sold everywhere). bb seems to be doing well!

If you look up early BT thread posts by Beaumont, Oakes, Radek and others. you will see a different forum & an early Ontario landscape that actually pales to the current one.
